Help SGSII wont boot(nor enter recovery mode) after software update

Hey fine folks,
So this morning, my phone prompted me that there was a software update, great!
I press update, and go take a shower while it does it's thing. I come back and it's stuck on the S logo... and it has been stuck there ever since.
This is a GT-i9100 by the way.
I have attempted to gain access to the recovery mode, but when i do, it sends me to a loading bar with the andoid guy and some blue thing rotating, it loads for a bit, the loading bar dissapears and then i goes back to booting, and gets stuck at the S logo again.
When i click the options button on the recovery loading screen, it says:
"Installing fota package..."
then after a few seconds,
"E: failed to mount sdcard(no such file or directory...)"
I have not rooted or installed any funky stuff on my phone by the way.
I have also tried going into the download mode, which "seems" to work. Although whatever it does, it just says "Downloading... do not turn off target!". but it does that for quite a while... maybe i should let it run it for a few hours?

Any ideas? anything would be helpful, really :)

Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to Android Forums CaptainKirby!

From your post it sounds like you were receiving your ICS update, OTA, Over The Air.

Not too many firmwares are offered this way because if the data link is broken then the phone can become unresponsive.

All is not lost though. You can either...

1. Take it to a Samsung Service Point and explain what happened and they should flash it under warranty providing you are not rooted and running the stock, out-of-the-box, firmware.

2. You can attempt to get it into Download mode by switching it off/pulling the battery out and replacing... and the hold the Volume Down button whilst pressing the Home key and Power on key. This should take you into Download mode and allow you to flash the correct ICS firmware via a PC application called Odin3.

See under, "My firmware is not eligible for ICS yet but I want it now!", in post #1, here.

Good luck!

Thanks a bunch for your quick answer!
I am currently(sadly), not able to make my mobile connect to my computer(that is everything but the Samsung MTP device driver installs fine)... I assume this would put a stop to me attempting nr 2 solution correct?

Thanks again.

EDIT: !! It worked, thanks a billion times :)

I tried to update my sgs2 to ICS via Samsung Kies but and some kind of an error occured during the installation and the download bar freezed to 0%. It stayed there really long time but since it said not to disconnect phone from the computer i decided to go sleep and check if it had installed the ICS in the morning.

Yeah, a stupid idea i guess. In the morning there was a text "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again". Kies says i have to Emergency recover my phone but now it won't go to recovery mode! I know im supposed to get it to recovery mode by pressing Vol. Up + Home + power but it doesn't work. I can get it to "Odin mode" but i don't really know will it help in this situation.

I have been looking for the answers from every single web page i've found but i haven't noticed anyone having the same issue. So is there a way i could put my phone to recovery mode via Kies or something? Im really stressed about this because i got this phone yesterday and it isn't working atm!

Hopee someone can help me out 'cuz i really dont know what to do

I'm practically having the same issue as you except on my S2 T-mobile version... I'd like to know if you figured something out. I hope to hear back soon! Thanks!

Okay here is what I would do:
Firstly download the rom from samfirmware.com
Extract the file so you will get a TAR
Download Odin
Close Kies
Select the downloadet ROM in Odin
Connect phone in Download mode to USB cable
Wait for it to install drivers, and it is recognised in Odin
Press start

Does it still not work, and fails then I would try:
Download suitable PIT files for your mobile
Start Odin, select PIT and the file
Tick: Auto reboot - Re-Partition - F. Reset Time
Press start

If it still fails, then I would:
Flash CF Root kernel, and flash a custom ROM to it (This WILL void your warranty unless you reset the binary counter with a USB Jig, or triangleaway, and flash a stock rom back to it. Doesn't matter if it fails. Warranty is still valid):smokingsomb:

I was doing a kies update on a stock GT-i9100m unlocked on the bell Canada Network. The firmware update crashed now all my phone shows is a red android man with a yellow explanation mark underneith it says Firmware upgrade encountered an issue please select recovery mode in kies and try again.

I tried that and kies wants me to put the phone into recovery mode. tried that didnt work

i can however get it to go into download mode but that seems to be useless so far.

im new to this so please explain thoroughly
