Share Everything? Share Nothing....

I am currently off contract, I have the unlimited data and 450 minutes. I pay $65 a month. Great deal, right?

I am looking to simply add a basic phone line to the account. Tried to do it today, no matter if I buy it on contract price or just add a device, I have to then switch everything over to Share Everything.

The price break down is:
60 a month for 2gb data(which I will exceed)
40 a month for the smartphone
30 a month for the basic phone

Talked to Verizon, I can pay $25 a month to AT&T for the additional line and keep my current config with Verizon.

Verizon says they understand but they don't make the prices. Gotta love their customer service. Been a loyal customer for years, no bad marks on my account. But they had no come back for me to pay $40 less a month to their competitors.

Too big to fail, and fail Verizon just did. Share Everything is nothing but a term used to rip off light users. If you have a family bundle, ok maybe you'll save a little. But as an individual you are screwed.

Byebye Verizon.

I realized Verizon was an overpriced service for one line when I moved my wife over for her iPhone. She requires reliability in connection and service, and sadly in the areas she spends most of her day Verizon is the best. It really seems that you need more than one device in order to make it not seem like a monthly mugging.

$25/month with AT&T? Sounds like the prepaid plan that only includes 250 any mintues (and no free mobile-to-mobile). Definitely can't do that with Verizon. Closest you can get is $40/month for 700 minutes, or $1/day prepaid that gets you unlimited in-network calls, but you pay per minute for any other calls. $1.99/day gets you unlimited talk across the board (AT&T has this too). The caveat with the pay-as-you-go per-day plans is that you only pay the days you use the phone, so you can do better than $25/month if you're not looking at daily usage. Hope this helps.

This doesn't sound accurate. I can add a line without being forced to switch to another plan. Call another Verizon rep. :)

I just called them to hypothetically add a regular phone to my account. I have the same type of account as you.

Tech support said that I would not lose my unlimited plan but I would be part of the family share plan. Note, there is a difference between "Family share" and "Share everything. Family share is, I would have to bump my minutes up to 700 a month minimum but I get to keep my unlimited. Share everything is... Well... The plan that sucks for data users...

I would call back and get another opinion. :)

This is completely true, it is weird because sometimes you will get a really bad rep that won't work with you, and other times the rep will be awesome and literally get whatever you ask for...

Anyhow i would call again and try...

I would also agree that Verizon is best utilized with multiple users now with the Share everything...

I now i have a solo account on it, i just love that i always have service, i see my friends hitting their phones because they don't get great service and i never have to because Verizon is the best :), in my opinion ;)

I gathered the issue for the OP was that he was on an individual plan, so he'd actually have to change plans to be on a share plan, and that means Share Everything. It's different if you're already part of the good ol' Family Share (which I am) and you simply add a line.

I think Satires is on an individual plan, he clearly stated they would make his switch to a family plan. Verizon states they will NOT force existing customers to the Share Everything plans if they don't want to go. I believe the OP got an uninformed Rep, and should try again.

The 450 talk plan is a single line plan with VZW. The share everything plan is the only family plan for new activations that includes a smart phone. He didn't get an uninformed rep. He wants to be upset about plans, thats on him. It's about supply and demand. Nobody is forcing him to start up a line of service with VZW and VZW isn't changing the price for him that the other customers agree to.

450 grandfathered family plan, I think... these are so hard to keep track of these days.

Maybe there's a 750 option, I just know that if I want to add a line, the legacy plan is there. However new lines must add data for a smartphone upgrade, but are currently good if you swap a feature phone on the line.

Call VZW, use their online chat thing, then call them again. THEN stop in a store.... VZW is just too big these days.
