Sharing in messages

I just purchased this phone and when I went to save my boyfriend's new number (the same phone) there was already a contact for him. I found out that it got there by profile sharing. It says that we both have to opt in for this but neither one of us did. Did we inadvertently do it in some way??

Contacts are linked to your Gmail account. Did your last phone use your Gmail account?

I'm not sure but it would have been a different account

what was your previous phone? did you use smart switch? the reason i ask is that it could have come from your previous phone. i just bought the note 10+ back in august 2019. i never really looked at profile sharing until now....and sure enough it was turned on. i must have had this setting from a previous phone, but i'm not sure which one. i use smartswitch to transfer my data and apps to my new phones.

No I've never had a Samsung Galaxy phone before
