Shattered my screen... What are my options?

This weekend I severly injured my Atrix. Dropped it face down on a bumpy asphalt road. Spider web shatter all over the screen.

So I ask, what would you do if you were in my situation... would you buy a screen and install it yourself? Or would you have a third party company do it for you? Does ATT offer any support for people in my situation(I don't have insurance)?

Thanks.. :(

Go to the tips and tricks forum for the atrix, there is a post of a YouTube video on how to change it yourself. Seems easy to do. That's what I would do, just fix it myself

And at&t will not do anything for you. Insurance is a good thing to have. But from what I'm reading it will be a easy fix.. still sucks ass though!!

Yeah, if you're handy with a screwdriver set, iFixit has rated Atrix one of the most fixable phones.

Search "atrix digitizer" on ebay and you'll find a bunch. All around 20-35$

I am sure you know this already but in case you don't the ATT insurance cost $5/month and has a $125 deductible. It covers damage caused by anything (accidental or not) and will replace your phone if you loose it.

I hope this helps

I shattered mine about a month ago. I ordered a screen off of Ebay that included the tools to help repair the phone. I watched the posted video and it probably took me about an hour. Next time i'm sure it'll take about 10-20 minutes.

They actually just increased their price to $9.99/month (I just added it Saturday)...and it now includes GPS tracking for lost phones, and some extra support maybe over the phone and live chat??

The deductible is still the same.

Alright so when I sign up for att insurance will they ask to see my phones current condition?

Not sure. Plus, if I remember correctly, you only have a few days or weeks to sign up for insurance after you purchase your phone, to prevent having to cover stuff like this. That way they can prevent covering a phone of someone who hasn't been paying the monthly premium.

You can also try the link I put below. A little more expensive than ebay probably, but at least you know it's new. I've purchased items from them before and most seem to be good quality, though shipping can take awhile as it comes from overseas.

You have to add the insurance with a couple requirements:
30 days from purchase of the phone
Or when you change or upgrade your plan
Or when it is replaced under warranty or insurance replacement

I hope this help! HankAtrix

So did I just get taken by the customer rep for $9.99???

EDIT: I just checked online and what the rep did was "fail" to tell me that there is insurance ($4.99) and the mobile protection plan ($5.00) which includes features like GPS tracking, extended support and whatever else...I am upset that when I asked about other options aside from the $9.99 option, she said NO.

Okay guys, heres the update...
Bought a digitizer off ebay, disassembled the phone, took old digitizer off, now Im ready to put the new one on.

Thing is, I am having a hard time keeping all the dust off my digitizer and my LCD screen while putting it on. Has anyone replaced their digitizer before? Does it absolutely have to be dust free? Any pointers on how to keep the dust off while assembling the phone and the digitizer?

I am desperate for some help, my phone is in pieces as I type, I would love to get this new screen on!

You my friend, got upsold!

just finished replacing mine yesterday and i left the clear stickers on the new glass on till the very end also i had a microfiber rag on hand to give my lcd a quick wipe down before mounting the glass. Only problem is now no one can here me when i put the phone on speakerphone for some reason it must use a different mic than when not on speakerphone?? Im going to go by the at&t store to see if they will swap the phone out for a new one and not notice i replaced the glass... wish me luck

ha, yeah i guess so. but joke's on them as i just went online after reading these comments and removed the extra $5 charge, then proceeded to call the store and "reem" the manager for blatantly lying to customers.

Doesn't that just make you sick? They are already making HEAPS of cash on us, but to have to lie? Despicable.....

where is good place to buy just the glass? the display seems fine on mine but theres a small spec/scratch i can see behind it im sure the actual display is fine just need the glass thanks

As for warranties I like to share that the squaretrade warranties are probably one of the best for accidental damage. Of course this is a third party warranty but they cover all electronics and they are the coverer of my phone for when I ever crack a screen or water damage.
