Shattered

Lurker
Hu Guy's. I am really shattered at being unable to use my Q-Media 10 inch android tablet. Model PC1008. Android 2.3.1 version 2.10. Okay I have had it nearly six month and it was second hand. Nice machine, but I cannot use it for anything. I want to use it for downloading e-books, but when I try and get online with the built in wi-fi I am always being asked for the password, a password I knew nothing about and do not have. So there I sit. Totally stumped.
There will have been a password I suppose, put on by the previous (unknown) owner. Could that be recovered and used? Don't know. Seeing as I cannot get online, I cannot apply to anyone for a password. Talk about catch 22, this is ridiculous and at 80 years of age I can really do without the stress. Is there anyone who could talk me though this time of trial so that maybe I would end up being able to use the tablet. It has been showing me that it is on Safe Mode. Can anyone spare me a few minutes to put me on the right track? Many thanks. Walt

Hello and welcome to Android Forums, Walt. :)

Just to be certain, you can tun on the tablet and you can use the apps that it already has? It's just when you try to connect to Wifi you are presented with a prompt for a password?

that password would be the security key for your home wifi (or wherever you are trying to connect.) Do you have any other wifi devices? It would be the same password.

Hello Lunatic59. Nice to hear from you. Hope that I can help you to help me. My PC does not have Wi-Fi and does not even have a wireless Router. I am going to fit a wireless router as soon as I can and maybe then I will get Wi-Fi onboard the PC. Hope I am making sense here?

The Q-Media does have Wi-Fi enabled on it and keeps showing me Wi-Fi sites that enabled and are near enough to give a good signal. If I buy a Wireless Router will that have Wi-Fi included and would I get a password of my own to use? I am thinking of the ThomsonTG585 which I can get for

Makes perfect sense. Those wifi sites you are seeing are the broadcast ID's of your neighbors wifi networks. Since you are being prompted for a password it means they are secured with some form of encryption. When you get a wireless router, it will come with instructions how to configure yours and you will be able to set a password.

From what I can see the Thomson TG585 is a discontinued model. The recommended replacement is Technicolor (Thomson) TG582N. Also please note that this is an aDSL model. If that's how you are setting up your internet access then it should be fine.
