Shazam started charging iphone users!

Shazam recently released a premium version for AU$5.99 for the iphone & updated their basic app to only allow 5 songs per month.

I'm not posting to be smug about it, I'm posting because they will likely do the same to us. So if Shazam push out an update for their Android app, make sure you check whether they added this limitation before you download it.

I believe they already were doing this with Blackberry too, so my guess is...it's just a matter of time before that's the standard business model.

Was this a one-time fee or price?

If I recall correctly, I got an iPod touch back in December and already they had a "free" version which was only 5 songs per month and then the regular which was a few bucks.

When I purchased it for my BB, it was a one time fee (it's only like $5 if I recall correctly).

I wonder if they'll let me transfer the license to Android, should it become a paid app. They allowed me to transfer it from one BB to the next... :)

Now that I think about it, I believe you may be correct; the BB port did have a limited number of free searches.

This is not new. It has been this way for a long time. When I had my iPhone before I got my Droid in November there was a limited free app on the iPhone and a paid one.

BTW, any indea how to uninstall this Shazam?
I have a moto dext(cliq's Uk version), it comes this Shazam, can't find any way uninstall it.

this isnt new guys. not sure how it's a news story today...they've been charging for the iphone and blackberry apps for some time now. i was pleasantly surprised when i switched to android that it was free. then again, our version is EASILY the worst of the 3, so...

I've never seen the old iPhone app that was free, was it supported by ads?

The Android version has ads, so that may keep it free.

I've only used it a few times in the last 3 months anyways, and that was just to see how it works.

I only have an ipod touch & didn't pay any attention to apps that needed a microphone so I have no idea how long it's been limited. I recommended shazam to an iphone friend & was disappointed to find it limited. When I looked at it in itunes, most of the reviews say "why is this limited now?"

Anyone upgrade today? I'm afraid to, even though it says there will be unlimited tagging if you've previously used the app.

Just updated, still has my tags. I don't use it a lot so may never know if it's still unlimited for me!
I just wish they would fix it so it goes right to the mp3 store instead of the website.

I upgraded today, and it gave me the paid version like promised.

You can check it by going to Settings -> Payment Status.

The new version goes straight to the mp3 store for me. I just purchased a few of my tagged songs on the fly to test it out. Well it doesn't go the the mp3 app, so much as it seems to be built right in Shazam itself.

So if I ever did a reset or wipe to install another rom, the "paid" status i get from being grandfathered in is tied to my gmail account?

Is there a limit of 5 songs on the update? If so...I'll never update my version unless it expires!!!
