Shock/crash resistance?? How strong is sgn?

Its a very technical question, I doubt there will be any official answer for that, but I'm wondering what is the shock resistance rate for the galaxy nexus.....

I'm currently using it with the otter box commuter case, both soft and hard layer should keep it fairly safe. However, everything I go snowboarding, I'm afraid I might crash that little thing, especially the screen.....

It looks very fragile to me, even with the case on. So I'm wondering how type of shock or crash would it(or any type of similar class smartphone ) withstand?

Hope there's someone out there with some real practical experience can sharing with us.

Thanks

I dont have a otterbox commuter, and havent dropped my phone, so cant comment on its strength. There are a few instances of both survival and destruction after people dropping them, on the forums here. My impression is that it is not the most durable phone, a drop on a corner is supposed to be especially bad. But the screen should be pretty resistant to head on force.

I dropped mine when getting out of my truck(bout 4 feet) landed on the corner and slid a few feet on the screen. Picked it up had a chip in the bottom left corner of the plastic but screen was fine. And a few scratches on the plastic

I've dropped mine a few times on concrete as well as very thin carpet but only from 3-4 feet up.. very non-visible scuffs on the plastic.. I have no scratches on the screen yet either and I've been carrying it around with no case or screen protector for over a month now

Very interesting, i forgot the oled screen is tend to be more flexible than the LCD..

What about the whole module system inside the case? I'm not sure how the whole electrical board were wired, will the shock potentially damage the hardware system inside? I meant a serious falling from snowboarding can generates tons of physical impact, so I don't know whether or not if its smart to ride with an expensive phone in it pocket.

My three old daughter is obsessed with the games on this. I've had it for 2 1/2 months, and it still looks brand new. But, she doesn't usually play around hard floors or concrete. imo, the case that comes in the verizon bundle should be quite protective.

couldn't you ride with it in a pocket that zips? so that it is VERY unlikely to come out. If your so worried about that then this seems like a solution to me

I would NEVER do that, personally!! There are phones that may handle that, but not the gnex imo! I keep mine in my pocket with a screen protector and back case, but treat it kinda gently.

Casemate Pop case on mine. Already sustained two 4 foot drops, one onto the back and one face down. No phone damage.

Its Not much of a drop problem that I'm concerning about, it's the fact the Crashing impact generated when u r falling while snowboarding, the human body weight and speed.

Imagine u got the phone ur right side pant pocket, Then u fall right on it, the force will probably Break it right into two pieces

Hmm, put it in an inside coat pocket then? That way it will be "absorbed" by your body on impact

I carry my GN in my pocket, no case or screen protector. I've never liked cases and especially when you like the design of a phone. I've also dropped it a couple of times (once screen down on tiled floor) and not a mark.

I guess it's down to luck, how it lands etc.
