Shoping on my smartphone

Hi, I'm really new to this world of smartphones and have just got the HTC Desire, and I'm wondering how safe buying things through my mobile is? I happily shop all day over the internet on my laptop because I've got antivirus and firewalls and lots of security. There's nothing like that on my android phone, so how safe is it to shop?

I did try to search for this both on Google and within this forum, but didn't really find a response.

Obviously you wont have firewalls and things like that, but I dont see why it wouldnt be secure.
