Help shortcut to compose sms?

everytime i try to compose a sms, i have to open message app, the select the pencil icon. anyway to set a shortcut on the home screen to jump right to compose?

This. Or, another option is to have the SMS widget on one of your homescreens. From there, you can simply tap the pencil and it opens right up to composing a message.

how do i do this? is this only from the locked screen or the home screen at all times?

Pick a blank homescreen. Long press, select "widget" and then select "messages." You then have your choice of 3 different widget styles.

i think i got it but it just makes one of the home screen to show the messages. i thought i can place a pencil or something on the main screen so i can go straight into compose. too used to my other old phones where i just move the joystick and it goes straight into sms compose screen.
