Should I get one of these?

I was thinking about asking for a Nexus 7 for Christmas. I plan to use it as a multipurpose tablet for trips, just watching Netflix in bed, playing Minecraft PE, and using it to start to dev or even bake a custom ROM for it (also, definitely rooting it).

I currently have an HTC Evo V 4G, and my family has an iPad 2 that my dad usually uses... don't really like it though, and would much rather prefer to have a tablet of my own. ;D

So do you think it'd be worth asking for one? I think with the good grades I have and a bit of asking, he'd say yes.

Yes, get one if you can. I have now owned two upgrading from the 16 to the 32 gig.

As for wanting to be a dev - one of the best devices to learn on has to be the Nexus 7. I have been playing around with it a lot. The best part is that it is not one of my phones. I say that because even if I do something to this device, I can still pickup my phone and make calls.

I am also a former owner of an ipad 1. Personally I found it to large to carry around. The 7 is nice as it fits in my hand nicely and is fairly light enough to not cause any strain while reading.

Good luck... hope you get one.

Im really considering purchasing the Nexus 7 with jelly bean installed. Can people give me their general opinions of this tablet please?

The Nexus 7 is probably one of the best tablets around. It's powerful with a Tegra 3 Quadcore, it's cheap at 200-300 depending on model, it gets direct updates from Google AOSP and will be updated fairly quickly after on gets released, it is extremely easy to root and rom for those that are into that, and it gets sufficient battery life. If anyone is in the market for a tablet, this is the one I direct them too.

I bought a 32GB N7 on black Friday. Since then I have been able to do a lot of things. I like the free calling with GrooveIP - as snowbirds from Europe we have no phone plan. It is also great to carry pictures around that you want to show to your friends. The voice input for the Dolphin browser is great too.

I think I will get a bluetooth keyboard for typing. The on-screen keyboard is not useable for longer text passages. The screen is not bad but for playing videos it has a certain beige tint.

Bottom line - it is a great device for the $230 that I paid. Can highly recommend it. If I lived permanently in the US, I would get a 3G model and a plan for OTG or tether it to a phone (if I owned one).

I got mine Monday and it's hardly left my hands since. It's a great piece of kit. The other half was even suitably impressed so she's asked for one for Xmas too.

Dont think it , It is the best tablet ever for the price! For gaming , No problem and Netflix wont take a sweat , Just make sure you have a good internet connection!

I got my nexus 7 about a week ago and I've been pretty impressed with it thus far. Only drawbacks with it is it don't have an sd card slot, and flash isn't supported at present. The upside though is it plays hd movies pretty smoothly, even ones I transferred from my laptop and a lot of the games I've tried run great. Probably the best $250 investment I've ever made (32gb wifi model).
