Should I Let Boost Do This To Solve My Problem?

hi guys

a few days ago i woke up to find my phone with no reception. it kept making a sound every few minutes and when i checked it it had a red X in the right hand corner that indicated no service. I had this problem before and i don't remember what i did to solve it. I tried taking my battery out and reinserting after several minutes. that didn't work. I called my Boost Mobile and they said a tower was out near my area. it was in a town not too far from where i live. I called today again and they said something about calling them tomorrow or the next day about the service. after that they said they would have to reset the phone possibly. they said i can backup my stuff to a folder on the computer. if that doesn't work resetting it then they said they would have to reset to factory settings.

my phone is rooted and i really don't wanna have to go thru the process of redoing everything. my question does anyone know a solution to this problem with the red x and no reception? my room is downstairs and i had good reception down here before this started happening so it can't be the fact that im downstairs. should i go ahead with what boost is saying that they might have to reset my phone? i trust this android community more than what the workers at boost say.

thanks in advance.

After spending 2+ hours on the phone with customer support and Tech Support, talking to Samsung and getting an RMA, hooking up my old Prevail and finding the same problem, Boost acknowledged a tower problem. Sure enough I drove 5 miles down the road and got perfect reception on my S2 again.

The frustrating part for me was my first question to Boost CS was 'is my tower down'.

2 days now.

They are talking factory reset, which clears user data but does not clear internal storage. If you setup Google (Gmail) and sync correctly your contacts, settings, calendar and such will be auto-reinstalled upon reactivating Gmail. Also you can back all ur data with Titanium Backup. At least backup ur call log and text messages (the yellow listings in TB).

Hi Kevin

Thanks for the reply. Had a few questions. Internal storage holds apps right? I copied the entire contents of my cell to a folder on my computer. Can I copy and paste that back to my cell fter the factory reset and get back everything? I thought I read titanium backup was not good. Is the free edition ok? Please let me know. Also what happen next with your situation with boost? Just curious.

If you are running stock, your internal storage holds you apps.

Titanium Backup is one of the most respected apps for Android, not sure who would say otherwise. TB backs up apps and the free edition will get you bye. Yes you can restore your apps. But ...

It is recommended to reinstall your apps after a factory wipe and only restore data.

If you have a tower down, just wait out the 3 days or whatever and never do a factory wipe. A factory wipe won't fix any issue caused by a bad tower.

Personally my tower is back up and I have to cancel the Samsung RMA.

Hi Kevin

My phone is rooted and I have a mod on my phone.

Yea I got my info wrong. I meant that you only restore data and u reinstall apps manually correct?

My phone is still not not getting a good signal. I will wait a few more days. But I shouldn't let boost reset my phone right? Please let me know.

Thanks for the help you're giving me pal.

my phone's signal came back a few hours ago. but i wanted to confirm something, now that my signal is back i can go about my business and go back to using my phone like i was? i mean do i need to do anything else like call Boost for any reason? you said: "A factory wipe won't fix any issue caused by a bad tower." So im guessing i won't need to do that even though Boost said they would have to do that?

Business as usual, just enjoy.

You should notice that ur battery drained qwikly with bad signal and now back to normal.

Do not bother factory wiping.

awesome! thanks so much kevin for answering my questions. i greatly appreciate it. you rock!

thanks again :D
