Help should I let the update install?

hi all

I just got a new Galaxy S4 LTE i19506 OS 4.3
kernel 3.4.0.2210443
build JSS15J.I9506XXUBML6

after connecting it to the net it went 'nuts' with updating as expected...

One thing I'm not sure about though is the firmware update.. I don't know what it is going to do.. I 'seem to remember it saying it was to fixe a slow issue.. it is 131.53Mb.

I don't know if it is going to put lollipop on.. : after a lot of user complaining at present with that I don't want to risk it.
I also don't want to spend hours putting everything back as to how I like it set up.. :(

any idea what this particular update is for or will do?

many thanks

My GT i9505 was provided with an OTA official update from Samsung which made it Android 5.0.1 from Android 4.4.2 without any problems. I know it's not the same model as yours but an Official update should be OK. Neil.

Thanks for your reply nu2andy.

My initial update was 'just' 130mb in size..

Since connecting it to Kies.. It has offered a much larger update. Well Over 1 GB!

I presume the smaller one is an increment over the existing 4.3 , and the large one Lollipop?

Thanks for responding

just did the 'small' update.. didn't alter OS number and no change to the home page.. so a minor update then..

Not usre I i'm going to go to Lollipop yet.. some seem to complain about low volume.. (plus I have only had it a couple of days!!!!)

another 'seemingly small' update and now i have 4.4.2 (KitKat?)

The one on Kies is a much larger install.. (Lollipop?)

Think I'll still leave it a while..

Thanks..

this is the message about the update.. attached...

I just connected it again and a pop up says:
• Available space required in device storage: 3 GB
• Available space in device storage will decrease by at least 950 MB depending on the number of apps you have installed on your device.
• For compatibility reasons, some of your downloaded apps may require updating to the latest version after your device OS is updated to Lollipop.
• Samsung Gear users should update Gear Manager to the latest version.
• If updating the device OS from Kitkat to Lollipop, you cannot downgrade the software once the update has been completed.

So it is Lollipop 5.0.. still not sure... :(

My Storage space shows 7.25GB's available. Have a look at your available space which will indicate whether you have room for the Update. You can free up space by clearing the cache as per Safe Mode. I think that once the update installs it clears out unnecessary files. My first Huawei Ideos only had 512MB's of storage built in. I added the max storage to it with a 32GB MicroSD card and used App2CD and File Manager to move stuff to the SD card. This Samsung has 8GB's plus 64Gb's on MicroSD card. I don't think you will have any problems with the install. Neil.
