Help Should I replace my touchscreen, LCD screen, or both?

Hi, This is my first post and I have a quick question. My phone screen is not working properly. I have a 1.5 year old HTC Evo Shift 4G. Basically there is an area towards the top of the phone that usually wont react to me pressing it. Also, throughout the day the touchscreen will go haywire and register clicks that I am not making. It will also get stuck on the home screen and switch between home screens all on its on as if I

Try a data wipe first. This is likely a software problem and not a hardware problem. Especially if you're running a custom ROM....

The problem sounds like it may be the digitizer, or it could be the connector or it could be some component that's upstream from the digitizer. On many even most phones the lcd is fused to the digitizer. Even when they can be separated, there's risk that the lcd will be damaged in the attempt. The other issue here is risk. The connectors in the phone aren't designed to be removed and reattached. You can do almost everything correctly and still end up with a brick because you crimped a tiny ribbon cable. Whether it's worth it depends on the cost of the parts and your skill. I've repaired a few phones in my day, and my experience has led me to recommend looking for a working replacement instead of repair. YMMV.Best of luck.

Thanks for the info Pasta. I've never repaired a phone before but I have done some computer work and once took apart my xbox to repair it. It looks like I can get a digitizer for 15 or the digitizer/LCD for 45 bucks. Or I can pay someone else 100$. OR, I can buy a new one for 165$. I'm so confused and your post makes me worried to open up my phone for the first time.

This is a little late, but I had the same issue when my phone was only like 4.5 months old. I took it to a Sprint store and even w/o the insurance plan, they replaced my touch screen for $38. I was able to add the insurance after that, and haven't had any problems with it since then.
