Should I reset phone before ICS upgrade?

Sorry if this has been talked about somewhere, but with ICS coming out today or this weekend, is it a good idea to do a factory reset? Or should you upgrade first and play around with it and then do a factory reset? I know when I first got my phone I just downloaded all kinds of apps and kept tweaking the settings, then did a factory reset and put it back to the way I wanted. If you do a factory reset after installing ICS, will it reset it with the original operating system, or does it reset it with ICS? I am just wondering what most people recommend.

I've been told that it's good to backup, update, restore, & then restore your data back on to the device. In that order. However a Factory Reset is not required. It's a matter of personal preference.

If it was myself, i would see how the phone was performing and do the factory reset if i had issues. There really isn't much difference doing the reset before or after the update, and if you reset after the update it stays on ICS.

Installing the new OS would go smoother with a fresh phone but that isn't to say that you'll have problems. They didn't recommend one so I wouldn't worry about it. It is all a matter of opinion. Some will say yes and some will say no. They are both right and wrong at the same time haha. It is whatever you want to do. If you are waiting on the soak I would advise against it as it could throw you out of the path of the soak.

That is good to know. So basically once you update this to ICS, there is no going back to GB?

I reset mine & just adde two apps till I get the update installed. Pthen I'll re download everything.

That's what I did after the soak test email sign-up. Got the OTA about 1am CST. I don't think there are any problems that I've noticed other than "be patient" things :D:D

When you do a reset, will it automatically install all the apps you had before or do they just sit in Google and you can pick which ones to reinstall? On a separate note, if you purchase one and uninstall it, will it remember that you purchased it before and not charge you? Since all the apps are there, and all my contacts are either on the Exchange server or on my Google account, I don't need to worry about backing up anything (except for pictures or music or other files that I have on the phone), correct?

If resetting the phone was critical to success, it would be done automatically with each upgrade. I'm sure if it was a problem and companies like Verizon, AT&T in the US and other big providers elsewhere were seeing a lot of unhappy customers, returned phones, etc, they would demand that the update do a complete reset of the phone. In reality, a new os kind of does that anyway. People probably have more issues with the minor updates than they do with a completely new os.
