Help Should I Return My Phone?

Hi everybody,

I have had my galaxy s3 for about 2 weeks now
carrier: WIND Mobile
country: Canada
I am happy with my phone except a few minor features
such as missing the vibrating option in my sms screen
however one thing that troubles me is the battery issue,
like many on this forum i am experience less than stellar battery performance
and from lurking and searching on this forum it seems many says that the battery will improve after a few weeks and now that i am approaching two weeks now and i have not noticed any significant improvements in my battery life
from a full charge which usually takes about 3-4hours with my phone on but locked it only can last about 10-11 hours at most with casual usage which means casually browsing the Internet using flipbook and playing happy village periodically
to remedy this situation i even installed juicedefender and still no significant difference is noted

my phone is rooted, i don't really know how to spot if it is because of a faulty battery or the it is still "breaking in". However, my return or exchange period is almost up and i just want the experienced users on this forum to gimme some opinions as to what to do

i grabbed a screenshot of the battery info
and noticed that the standby drains alot of my battery as well as the android system

i have read that the jellybean will resolve alot of the battery issues with it's updates so should i just wait it out?

please help and thank you :)

I had that issue, I just bought another battery. Having 2 I just pop in the charged battery and put the other one in the charger. I never have to worry about a dead phone as I can pop in my backup. If you charge it over night it should be fine to carry the extra battery with you if need be.

i did read it
but the discrepancy between my battery time and that of others reported on the forum has got me wondering if i do infact have a faulty battery

my carrier is WIND Mobile
and country is Canada
model is SGH-T999V

So did you install one of the battery monitors? Does it show anything out of the ordinary? Did you do a factory reset?

That you see a discrepancy between your battery time and others would indicate something out of the ordinary regarding your phone. Following the suggestions in that post will not only provide more information for others to help, it may even isolate the problem.

i did do a factory reset
i read people providing their battery monitor screenshots
do those pick up more details than the preset one?
would that help to figure out if it is an app or it is the battery itself?
i know i really should post in that thread but its just my return period is almost up and i just want to make sure that my phone is at least in tip top shape

Yes, those apps designed to monitor power usage show a much greater level of detail as to where your power is going...

as for a bad battery, generally it's the "eliminate everything else" and whatever is left is the likely cause. You could probably test voltage with a multi-meter, but that wouldn't really tell you how loads affect it... much easier just to isolate that as a likely cause then switching with a known good battery.

okay you have been super helpful and super pro at this
i will go and collect more data before returning to the forum once more
thank you :)

hi i am back
and collected some data to help with the analysis

some added details
i charged my phone to full and slept for 10-12 hours
then i used the phone occasionally for happy village and light surfing and flipbook

it is werid how the battery analysis says i have 18-19 hours of battery use when i only get barely 10 out of it with casual usage

so what is the problem?
thanks guys for all your help

so, it wasn't actually on for 16 hours after the full charge?

it actually looks pretty decent... 16 hours with a couple of hours of screen time. nothing appears to stand out as excessive.

not a big fan of JuiceDefender. Many claim it actually uses more battery as it closes cached (not running) apps that are then forced to reload every time called, then closed again by JD, causing the apps to use more CPU cycles and SD access, thus increasing battery consumption. The quick truth is that setting up your apps correctly makes JD useless at best, and at worst may actually add to battery drain.

one thing you might try is using power saving mode. it will save you some cpu and gpu drain (your screen stats look pretty good) and shouldn't be noticeable under normal use, unless you use very resource intensive apps or games. try it and see if there are battery gains and if there's any noticeable performance trade off for you.

Thanks for the fast reply guys :)
maybe i will post another day of usage if y'all don't mind giving it another look

Look on XDA for a thread on "BetterBatteryStats", install that and see what wakelocks you have.
ya i think i will definitely do that
cause under app it does show wakelocks uses alot of battery

i hope that jellybean will resolve this
cause the battery monitor says i should be getting 19h of use out of my charge
and it takes 5-6 hours to get full charge so i don't know man
hope it is not a faulty battery

No need to go purchase another app. Gsam will tell you exactly how many times apps wake the phone.

While in apps just click the drop down box and select what you want to view.
