Root Should I...Shouldn't I?

Almost breaking down to utilize TowelRoot since it reminds me of this...

I really think I am going to wait it out but rooting my device means I can tweak the device to my liking/s but I understand that something could make the SHTF.

Ahhhhhhh, the temptation! :smokingsomb:

It sounds like we may have similar thoughts. Your right whan I was using my Warp it took me a year before I decided to root and eventually try different ROMS but never really solved the inherent problems of the Warp.
It was very easy to do it. I applaud and am fascinated by all on forum who are trying to do all for this Lg Volt. but so far this phone is working so much better than the Warp except for some minor things such as possibly not being able to save directly to sd card apparently its emulated in Kit Kat. Not sure yet if they have solved problem on backing up system so you can reinstall original settings or Rom eventually. will probably wait till after phone is off warrently

I don't see why there is hesitation here. In my opinion, there's no compelling reason not to root it. If you end up needing to take it in, just uninstall the root related stuff. It's not like we have custom ROMs yet or anything.

First post!

Towelroot is very much like the easy button.

Up to a few days ago, I had never rooted a phone. I bought the Volt a week ago and my LG Marquee was no longer to be used. So I rooted my Marquee. Several files to track down and install. But it worked. I spent a couple of days debating rooting the Volt. Then without thinking too much about it I clicked towelroot. A few minutes later I was rooted.

I did have to reboot a couple of times to get the LTE icon to light up but now LTE stays on all the time. The LTE issue just might have been a weak signal. Titanium works good. WiFi Tether Router works good. I'm happy.

Alright...I finally rooted my Volt and got BusyBox installed with no problems as of yet and do I need to install SuperSU?

You don't specifically have to install it, but you will have no way of controlling what has root access without it. In other words, it wouldn't be smart not to.

Done...installed SuperSU from the PlayStore. :smokingsomb:

This was way to easy!

i think i read somewhere it will function without SU but i would recommend installing it.

I installed it but it stated it couldn't configure something and I restarted the device and no apps are showing up that need to be configured...I also pressed the refresh button and it FC'd on me.

Did I do something wrong?

I didnt have any issues installing SU so im not sure but there was a recent update that i heard fixed any issues because some users were having issues.

Everything is running flawlessly...

I installed some root friendly apps but not sure what others to install to get the most out of being rooted?

For one thing, I consider Greenify standard in any rooted phone. It lets you completely disable an app when it's not in use (and therefore not using any background processes) while still letting you start it up and use it just as you normally would. Works great for massive battery and resource hogs like Facebook.

AdAway is great for getting rid of ads in any of your apps, like those in free versions of paid apps.

Apps like App Quarantine let you disable or completely remove a lot of the bloat software that manufacturers and carriers like to install on phones.

I have downloaded a lot of apps and AdAway is far more superior over AdBlock Plus.

So far, no error and or fatal in the logs...

It is. AdBlock Plus was also messing up my MMS messaging, so that I couldn't send or receive pictures. I'm very happy with AdAway.

I had a new Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 & I wasn't rooted but I know what you mean about kitkat & saving to external sdcard!!! No matter how many times I would use UTorrents Pro apk. To download stuff & it would only save to internal sd! I would set it to x sd & it would say error & wouldn't download. I think its a glitch or just how it is? I dunno just wanted to chime in cuz it drove me crazy! But Im buying a Volt on payday Monday & can't wait I had a LG Optimus F3 but bricked it flashing a bad rom! So bring on the Volt!

It's how it is... They disabled external SD card writing for security reasons. However, there's an override.

Since I rooted my Volt, I have discovered that there is a massive battery drain somewhere but I'm no coder/dev so I have no clue where to start. I have successfully uninstalled the previously installed apps and still massive battery drain. So massive that

I can visually see the percentage drop every 5 minutes....So, is there a possibility to remove root or what, I know I would have to reinstall the apps I uninstalled for system happiness but couldn't I remove the root?

Simply rooting your phone isn't going to cause this issue. I'm not having this problem, and so far as I know, no one else has reported anything similar. A factory reset would be the most thorough method to unroot, but you can also use SuperSU to remove root. There is an option in the settings. Either way, you'll lose all your root related functions.

Edit: Factory reset will not unroot... nor will it reinstall removed system apps.

Got the Volt last weekend, $150 at Best Buy is awesome price for this phone. Just retired my Triumph that was running mtdevCM7, so I was spoiled on a having a rooted phone. Went ahead and rooted the Volt. No problems so far. Only issue I had was that firefox browser would not download the towelroot.apk, but I switched back to the stock browser and got it. I have used NextApp SDFix and Wifi Teather Router and both worked right after install w/ no problems. I have 4G and Spark in my area, and it's actually better at my work than at home. I tested the hotspot and linked my old Triumph. Then I ran speed test on the Volt and Triumph at the same time. Got 24.57Mbps Volt and 13.97Mbps Triumph, pretty awesome. I don't as good connection at home though.

Anyway the Volt is a solid phone in imho, and much much better than my Triumph(and I really liked the Triumph on CM7). I have no issues w/ the screen resolution or sound.
