Should I still buy a nexus 7 or wait?

A few questions. How much longer will it be considered top of the line for? How much longer will it receive updates? Will it still be considered among the better 7" tablets a year from now? Or is it already getting old? Let me know what you guys think. Ultimately I was looking for a fast,small,future proof tablet that will still be relevant a year from now. Does this tablet fit the bill?
 
At the pace of technological change, there is no such thing as future proof. If it meets your needs now, buy it and don't look back. If you wait to see if something better is just around the corner, you may just keep waiting.

I've been delighted with mine and it has all but replaced my use of my laptop.
 
^Exactly.

There's always something bigger and better around the corner. The current N7 will be an admirable performer for the next few years.

Bought mine in January, no regrets. Fantastic device.
 
Nexus 7:
1.5Ghz quad core
2GB RAM
1900 x 1200 7" screen
Android 4.4.2 KitKat

It will continue to get Android support though the next year atleast so you can expect 2 or 3 new versions of Android to arrive for it. If you're looking for a 7" tablet you certainly won't be disappointed.
 
Hi mustard, I wouldn't have upgraded, or needed to upgrade from a Gen 1 N7 if I hadn't smashed the screen. I don't foresee obsolescence in the near future, nor even the inability to use future apps. This thing will probably die from battery fatigue before it is no longer supported.

My $0.02, take it for what it is worth.:)
 
I've been reading that Asus has been tapped to assemble the 8" nexus 8 and set to release late spring or early summer. Should be interesting. Talk of 2k resolution. Competing more evenly with the iPad mini. Nexus 7 v2 is still a beast though, and will be for some time. HTC will be assembling the nexus 10 2.
 
Having looked at the Galaxy Note 10.1 before buying my N7, I concluded the 10" screen was not enough larger to compensate for the overall bigger footprint. I'm really happy with my N7 and highly recommend it.

The exact reason I upgraded from Gen 1 to Gen 2, and also my thoughts on the Gen2!
 
I'd say get it. It's a Nexus so it'll get updates for a while and when it doesn't you root it and get the updates yourself.

This being my first tablet (N7 2013) I have to admit it's perfect. But I also don't have anything to compare it to. Also make sure you get the 32gb you'll need it.
