Should I trade out Vibrant for MT4G?

Robinelli

I'm on my 3rd warranty replacement at Tmobile on the samsung vibrant. I am so tired of the lag and freeze ups. I think if I return it again I am eligible for a different phone- is that correct? I am thinking of asking for the MT4G. Is it worth it? I don't want to downgrade. It seems like a good phone over all. The only thing I know I prefer on the Vibrant is the slightly larger screen and the SAMOLED display <<Sigh>>. But I know I'll love the camera flash and the better GPS!!! So is it worth it? Will Tmobile trade it out? WDYT?

I suffered through 5 Vibrants since launch. I was finally offered my choice of phones as a free replacement for that hunk of junk known as the Vibrant.

I chose the MT4G and couldn't be happier. Other than the screen, I really don't miss a thing about the Vibrant, and even that is fading.

The MT4G, for me at least, just works. I no longer worry about the next time I have to remove the battery to restart the phone. When I want to use the GPS, it works. Taking a pic in low light or outside at night, it works. Battery life, better. Build quality, better.

I've said it here and on other android boards, never again Samsung, never again.

Can you receive calls using wifi or only send calls?

both, same with SMS and MMS. that and it will be running 2.2 when you get it and update to 2.2.1 within a couple of days compared to the Vibrant being on 2.1 and SamSux telling TMO to hold the OTA for 2.2 until they give the go ahead to push it out to customers (sometime after the Vibrant 4G comes out no doubt).

Well I called TMobile about the multiple exchange and they LOST any record of me having exchanged 3 times!!! This is my 3rd vibrant and they only show ONE exchange! I am so annoyed. I feel like I have dealt with these problems long enough. I basically have to start all over with the returns to be eligible and the woman on the phone said she doesn't even know what phone I would be eligible to swap for until I've exchanged 2 more times. I am really at a loss for words. I don't know what I am supposed to do. She is sending me another vibrant and I guess that's all I can do? Exchange again and again? I don't understand how their system lost my info.

I sold my Vibrant when it was still worth something and debated over the MT4G or the G2. Either way I'm sure I would have been happy, but I settled on the MT4G. As I stated on other forums, the signs of a great phone are;

1. It works (and functions well)
2. You learn things about it often

In terms of the pure user experience, I have to compare this phone to my G1. The only thing I miss(ed) coming from the Vibrant was the screen. And honestly, unless you watch A LOT of HQ movies, it really doesn't matter. I quickly got over that the second I discovered that I didn't have to convert movies to play on it anymore. 4G, and WiFi calling are also 2 HUGE and I mean HUGE bonuses to boot!

I also rationalized it as since I bought the phone outright, whenever I'm eligible for an upgrade I can go to one of the dual core monster phones that should be available by July. (If not sooner) You have nothing to loose, and everything to gain. I vote for the MT4G twice! Good luck with whatever you choose.

Go directly to customer loyalty, with rough dates of your exchanges and if you had anything like Wavesecure or Lookout installed on your phone you should be able to go onto their websites and get your previous IMEI numbers that prove you've had more than 1 phone. Actually, I'm sure if you prod T-mobile enough they'll figure out that you've had more than 1 activation. Good luck.

My first activation was 6 months ago. Should that matter? That's not within the 90 day window. Maybe that's why it isn't showing?

It really shouldn't, as a matter of fact 3 phones in 6 months should if nothing else signal a flag of some sort at T-mobile. After all, isn't their policy 14 days remorse, 1 year warranty? (Not too sure about that) In any event, there's no way they don't have a sent/received history on your phone exchanges. Historically I've found with T-mobile it really depends on who you speak to most times. I've called and had some outright know-nothing-ass-hats to the point that I had to hang up, only to call right back and get someone who is exceedingly helpful. Like I said call them up, try to get over to loyalty and tell them your history. 6 months shouldn't matter. Good luck.

Update: I found me IMEI numbers!!! I have the ppw and everything from my previous phones. I called back and this time they said they could see my returns. They wouldn't send me anything yet though b/c they said one of the returns was over 90 days ago. He said if this next replacement has the same problems to return it and then I'd be elligible for something else. What phone he doesn't know b/c he said the system makes the recommendation. So I will have to wait and see what it recommends at that time. Hopefully it will suggest the Mytouch... Anyway, I also told him I have no service on campus and need the wifi capability so I can be reached- I have young children. So he put in a service request! That was great. He is going to call me back Thursday and let me know what they say about the request.

Sorry I'm not getting back to you quicker, the Phandrid app is wonky as hell and I'm working a lot during the day. Anyway, I'm glad this got resolved to some degree. I would definitely mark that date as to when they're getting back to you though. They're not very good at follow ups. The WCDMA WiFi calling thing is a HUGE asset if you can get it, and your wireless network can support it. I use it all the time when I'm downstairs in my apartment. The only time I get glitches is whenever I'm downloading a ton of movies or have the Wii running Netflix or something. Good luck, say something when you get an answer.

You were right. He didn't call me back. I called them. I told them I was returning the vibrant AGAIN. He said he could send me ANOTHER vibrant or a mororolla charm... Um NO THANK YOU! I kept on with him saying I've been with TMob a long time and certainly there was more they could do. He said no and asked me if I wanted to port my number to verizon. I told him yes, and I'll be doing that probably next month. <<<sigh>>>
I told him I have no service on campus and need the wifi calling and he didn't care. He said I could buy another phone. Not happening! I have a $500 phone I am still paying on.

Um, no. Unacceptable.

This is the perfect opportunity to call back and get someone slightly more helpful. I doubt seriously they were trained to suggest that you just port your number to another carrier. The fact that he even suggested the Charm as a worthy substitute for ANY phone let alone a Vibrant should have immediately told you he was an idiot. That said, please call them back and deal with someone slightly more sympathetic to your situation.

On another note, by now I'm sure you've heard that the Vibrant has in fact been granted the option to upgrade to FroYo this morning via Mini Kies. While no amount of OS upgrading will save that phone or it's reputation, it's worth a shot till you get the phone you want. Good luck and as usual let me know what happens.

This is what I did, and it got me out of a crappy Vibrant (was on my fifth one) and into a MT4G. I called (was having problems with my phone locking up when using the GPS and Photo Gallery) and went straight to cancellation. Told them I was tired of dealing with the Vibrant and that they would have to come up with something amazing to keep me and my wife (who has a separate account) with them. I was put straight through to customer loyalty/retentions and reiterated what I told the first person.

Told them I was not interested in another Vibrant and that I had been offered a G2 or MT4g previously for $200, but that was not good enough, I would use that $200 to pay for canceling my T-Mo account early and be done with it. They then offered me my choice of G2 or MT4g FREE, and I could keep my Vibrant.

Got the MT4G, sold the Vibrant and am now a happy camper.

It's all in how you approach them and also a bit of luck in getting the right person on the other end of the phone.

Good luck!
