Root Should I update?

I successfully recovered my Optimus F3 from bootloop via LG Flash Tool and it reset it completely.
However, I noticed that the firmware is not up to date. Since I'm planning on installing a custom ROM, would it be better to update my phone or install the ROM now?

I'd go ahead and update. Once you have a custom recovery installed, make a backup. That way you have something to fall back on.
