Should I upgrade my PC or get a nexus 7 tablet ?

Hi,
I don't know if this is the right section but whatever.
ok so I don't have a tablet and my PC is pretty crappy(single core,2gb ram,built in intel graphics) and soon,I will have something between 200~300$ to spend on either of them.It's just that I'm not sure if I should get the nexus 7 tablet(which is so awesome for the money and lack of 3G isn't a problem since I can use my phone as wifi hotspot) or upgrade my PC.I'm not a heavy gamer but I do like games and with a good dual core,GDDR5 GPU and 4gigs of RAM I should be able to play any modern game even on low-medium settings.On the other hand,the nexus 7 will be portable,good for reading,can play pretty nice HD games,can install android apps on it etc.So what do you guys think ? Keeping in my mind that I'm also getting a samsung galaxy s3 to replace my stolen galaxy s2.

To me if you are already going to get a galaxy s3 I think a PC would be a better complement than a nexus 7 which will be redundant with your phone in many ways. It will also be another device that you have to carry around on top of your phone. The only reason I would choose the Nexus 7 is if you are really serious about gaming and reading on the go and not just an occasional thing.

I wouldn't invest much on the old PC unless the mobo is Core2 (or better) capable. 2 GiB RAM is enough. A ~$50 video card upgrade, and maybe a dual core CPU (if able) might give the old PC another year or so.

If it came down to one or the other, I'd get the tablet, then spend no more than $100 to update the PC after that.

most of this will depend on 2 things. What are your needs? and what are your wants? g3 is nice but its no tablet. still a small screen comparably. the old computer would be a decent server hook a printer up to it and a few hard drives and keep all your syncing done through it and new life for the computer.

I do agree with speed on this personally Linux on the old desktop/laptop and set it up as my server then just get a nice gnex 16g and party like a frog at a fly convention oh yeah

I agree with you on this,the s3 can do anything the nexus 7 can do.Tho some stuff like reading and web browsing are more comfortable on the bigger screen.
@Speed Daemon The mobo is core2 capable,my PC isn't THAT old.Can still play cod 4 on low settings.

I don't think linux is for me,I have been using windows since I was born and it can be hard to change.I also wouldn't consider getting a gnex because I need the better camera/sd card slot/bigger battery on the s3.


ok I have thought about it and I think that doing some upgrades to my PC would be better for me because sooner or later,I will have to get a laptop for college(will be joining college in 1.5-2yrs) whether I want to or not so basically,the nexus 7 will be useless.Might also consider a surface pro instead of a laptop.Thanks all for the suggestions ^^

Try Linux, dual boot is easy to do. I've been using Windows since 3.0 days and now use Linux (PCLinuxOS) as my OS of choice on desktop and laptop. Both dual boot with Win7 as I'm not a purist, just realistic. Linux is easier to instal l(even dual boot) than windows, and with a choice of desktops and customizations available you're sure to find something you like.

I would not upgrade a really old PC unless you replace the motherboard. Parts could fail anytime and then you will need to spend more money. I would get the Nexus 7 now then buy a new PC in a year or 2. Windows 7 is really nice.

Prioritise:
- What do you need/want to do?
-- What do you need a better PC for? (gaming means whatever you can afford)
-- What do you need a 7" tablet for? (agreed, especially if you have a 4.8" SIII, seems a mite redundant)

Don't throw good money after bad: your PC architecture is completely outdated and any upgrade 1) would be expensive, and 2) won't be sufficient.

You may want to save for a new CPU+motherboard+DDR3 RAM+GPU and probably a PSU.
