Root Show me the root!

I just got my 1st smartphone and wanna root it! Can i even say that or I'm gonna get banned or something?

Probably banned.

Anyway, I don't know anything about rooting but I'd like to do it and keep getting the updates from whoever tjhat will get me Ice Cream Sandwich later in the year.

Oh, and not brick my phone.

Root! Root! Root! Root! Root!

Someone please point me in the right direction.

This will be move to the rooting part of this forum but you dont ever seem like you know what it is rooting is. If you dont know what you are doing or getting into look it up and if you end up thinking its to hard get an iphone :)

Because with android and this phones locked bootloader you will get a bricked phone if you dont know what your doing

Hi RB, and welcome to the forum.

You'll want to do some reading up on root before you attempt it, so you have a better understanding of what root gives (awesome power, and responsibility) and what root takes away (you'll most likely be off the upgrade path for any mfg updates).

Dig around in the All Things Root forums for bot the Maxx and the regular Razr (for rooting and ROMing purposes, they are the same phone). Pay special attention to the stickies at the top of the two forums.
This one would be a good place to start.

I would hover around the Droid Razr root only subforum, NOT the maxx root subforum.
There is waaaaay more information and they are the same phones fundamentally.
That is where I got my skills with this phone :)
