Sideloading onto SD card

yankeeharp

Newbie
I want to load an app from my computer onto a microSD card to put it into my Galaxy. Should I just drop it onto the card (i.e., "G:\") or should I put it in one of the folders (.android-secure or Android?) or make a new folder for it? Is it even possible? I mean, I know it's possible, but will I be able to install the app from the SD card once I put it back in the phone?

TIA

Yes yankeeharp, you should be able to install the app, as long as it is a .apk file.

You could just email yourself the file through Gmail and then download it from there, i always found this the easiest way :)

I used this method to install Swype Beta for my phone and it worked flawlessly. Hope this helps!

Just copy to the card. Doesn't have to be in a special place, but don't put it in .android_secure. Make sure you have the unknown sources option in the applications menu selected, then just click on the apk from your favourite file browser.

The reason the location of the apk doesn't matter is that it acts as an app installer. The app itself (including a copy of the apk) will be copied into the right place during installation.

Thanks. I'll try that, then.
