Believe this depends on the picture and also the program used by the receiver.
Some possible fixes for the photo include the photo size (resolution), aspect (16:9), position of phone when picture was taken (landscape).
Most photo apps automatically adjust the above settings for view on your phone so no issues are perceived. However the photo aspects change for the receipents.
Thinking back, I think the latest update from 'Samsung Push' (a month ago?) was probably what messed up the orientation of the sent picture. Never had a problem with it when I got my phone in Feb 2013 until the current update.
Just wondering if anyone else had the same thing happening on theirs as well...
