Signal keeps dropping

Hi guys,

I have a Desire. Build number 2.12. For the past couple of weeks, my signal keeps dropping. Calls are goin to voicemail, so I'm missing important calls, as not many ppl leave voicemails! argh!

Have contacted o2 who told me to just take out the battery n sim n "give it a good clean" :/
Other than that, they couldn't give me any further support as I'm on a Sim only contract and bought my handset off ebay.

Anyone having the same problem? Have seen and replied in a thread of the same nature in HTC Desire S. Chatted to an online support guy n he said he said he knew of the problem with Desire S, but not the standard Desire :s

Only other things I can think of is on the desire, is the network selection set to 2g/3g auto and Automatic selection?
 
My settings were on GSM/WCDMA auto, but have changed it to GSM only now. That appears to be working, so I'll see how it goes today, thanks!

What is the difference between the two? Will that effect my data connection?

GSM is the slow connection that you will see as a G on your status bar up top.
The other is 3G+

I think GSM may also be Edge as well.

You could try switch Airplane mode on then off, force it to connect to a new tower.
 
i have got exactly the same problem, i am on orange and recently the signal just completely cuts out and resets itself, it keeps doing this all the time. Also oddly my wifi signal foer my router at home is only ever one bar now, where as on my laptop its full.
