Root silence camera shutter

I have been trying to disable the camera shutter since it is so annoying when taking pictures. I downloaded a file explorer and went to /system/media/audio/ui and found .ogg sound files, I renamed the camera_click.ogg to camera_click.ogg.bak and restarted the phone. The shutter sound still persists, is the sound file located somewhere else?
 
I downloaded a camera apk from xda that have the ability to silence my camera. When I tried to overwrite some files in the root folder I noticed that it wouldn't let me due to permissions. I followed the guide on how to root your one v from this forum and I believe it is s-on correct? Is there a way to make it s-off? Or install the apk using my current setup? By the way I have twrp recovery 2 installed and have the stock rom. Finally would it be useful to have a backup of my stock rom in case something crazy happens?
 
The "stock" camera app on my HTC Legend have an option to disable shutter sound. Did you check that?
 
Yea I checked it. I looked up over at xda and here and the one v has a camera shutter sound that cannot be turned off...unless it is rooted and modify some files. I have renamed the camera under /media/ui and nothing, still sound. Even after I rebooted and cleared my dalvik cache. I guess for now I'll have that annoying sound until I find a solution for it.
 
any way to do this w/o root (virgin mobile)?

htc says it should be an option under camera interface, they said virgin mobile may have removed it. i asked virgin mobile if it is possible, if it will ever be possible - waiting to hear back from them.

any information/tips would be greatly appreciated, thanks

virgin mobile said they have no plans to make this option available.

anyone confirm that it is impossible w/o root?
 
i took the ogg files out the apk, saved the modified apk back, but it would not install.

i spent a couple hours trying to troubleshoot before restoring the backup i had made before i tried doing this.
 
I don't have my own computer, so I was poking around looking for a solution to work with apk files on my phone and found this:

The apktool folder has to be in the root of your sd card. I was able to successfully decompile and recompile my framework-res.apk with no errors.

* * * * * * * * * * * *Download the archive apktool4.0_armhf.zip from http://code.google.com/p/apktool/downloads/list

* * * * * * * * * * * *Download the updated apk file Apktool4.0.apk as well

* * * * * * * * * * * *Extract/unzip archive to /sdcard/apktool

* * * * * * * * * * * *Install the updated Apktool4.0.apk

* * * * * * * * * * * *Open app from app drawer, and have fun using it! :)


So please try this out, and let me know what you think! :)

I've used this also. Works well. You just have to do a lot of Google-ing on how/what/where to decompile/edit/recompile
