I have used handcent and goSMS with the same problem.
My initial notification is a short one, but i have a longer, louder one (about 20 seconds) for my repeat notifications. Unfortunately it seems that once a repeat notification starts i can't silence it without unlocking the phone, opening the message and reading it.
Is there any way to silence/acknowledge a repeat notification?
