Help Silent Mode & the Volume Button

I'm sorry if this has been addressed before, but I couldn't find any info regarding it.

Is there any way to prevent the volume buttons from breaking silent mode?

I have silent mode turned on, but every time I bump the up volume button, it takes the phone out of silent mode. This is extremely counter-productive for me, particularly considering how much I accidentally press that button (a lot, if today at work is anything to judge by...)

tl;dr: Is there any way to lock silent mode in?

That is the way it has worked on most of the phones I have owned. Don't know anyway around it.

I pressed a volume button this morning at 3 am when I couldn't sleep and my phone beeped and almost woke my wife up. I wish there were a way to make Silent immune from the volume buttons!

I am using the app Llama (similar to Tasker) and it has an option in settings to disable the volume buttons to keep the profile from changing. I used to accidently do this all the time and it was really annoying. This seems to work great although I'm not sure about the hit the battery is taking yet on this app.

Well, it sucks that you can't fix this without a third party but I guess that's just how it is. Bad design IMO, but I'll check out the apps. Thanks.

Thank you for the Llama suggestion. Not only does it fix the volume button/change sound profile, but it's also a lot more capable profile manager than Timeriffic. The coolest part is it only locks out the volume button. I can still change the profile with my widget.
