Can a sim card just go bad? And if yes would it make your phone suddenly shut down and not turn on again? I have replaced the battery and I'm sure the problem does not lie in the battery.

Thank you for any help you can offer me,

Hi Renae and welcome to Android Forums!

YES, a SIM card can go bad. That shouldn't affect the phone, however, other than being unable to use certain network functions like data or calling. That said: if the phone had a problem with, say, a charging circuit that overvolted it and then fried, that could have damaged the SIM.

You will definitely want to take your phone to the nearest AT&T store and have them look at it. If it's under warranty, it may need replacement. I hope this helps and good luck.

It's great to have you here :)

Hi and welcome

Yes and no.

A SIM can suddenly die and need replacing, but your phone should still start up without a SIM in it, just with no phone services.

If you cant start the phone any other way I suggest you try to do a factory reset as shown in this video

Htc Inspire At&t: HARD RESET easy 1 2 3 - YouTube

If it wont boot to the first screen in the video with voldown+ power, then its probably a hardware fault which needs repair. Note that a factory reset will delete everything on your phone.

Before you try a factory reset it may be worth registering on the forums and posting your question again in the forum for your phone where someone may have a specific solution for your phones issue.

Good Luck

Roger

PS Yes, as The_Chief says, if its under warranty take it back!
