Sim free phone

Hi could someone explain how the OS/firmware update differ between the network locked phone and sim free phone?

Not sure if it good thing to have sim free phone? As im planning to buy sim free phone.

A network locked phone usually has had the software altered by the carrier as well. This may just mean a bit of theming and the addition of some junk apps, or in some cases might mean removing features which the carrier doesn't want you to use.

From the point of view of updates, SIM-free phones will get them when the manufacturer releases them. Network-branded phones will get them when the carrier has taken the manufacturer's update and then made their changes. Hence SIM-free phones will get updates sooner than network-branded ones.

CPW is easiest if you want a high street shop, but you can usually get a better price online (no one dealer reliably has best price for all handsets).

It used to be the case that CPW pay & go phones were unlocked, not so sure now.
