Help SIM Unlock

Apparently we are able to unlock our VM phones with a code, I tried doing it just to do it (lol) but I'm not able to get it started. First it says to dial ##virgin# to access the activation screen but that doesn't pop up on my phone. Could it be because I am still with their service? Or because I flashed the stock ROM.

given that this phone is CDMA and doesn't use a SIM card I doubt you'll unlock it to be able to use other carriers....

CDMA phones can't be unlocked... the ESN number is on record with the carrier. Other carriers won't have that ESN on record to use their service (unless they are like some of the shady MVNO carriers that don't care).

cdma "world" phones are capable of being unlocked and allowed on gsm carriers. depending on the phone and the carrier. but, this phone isnt one of them.

Also metropcs let's you "flash" other cdma phones into their network. They are not an mvno, they are a regional carrier.

Not really shady, as the MVNOs are not altering your ESN, they're just adding it to their network's approved device database. If you legally own the phone, there's nothing wrong with it.

The reason I say shady is because they don't care if the phone is stolen or supposed to be locked due to nonpayment on a subsidized account.

Ok so I can't unlock without the carriers go? Because apparantly if you have topped up at least $80 onto you VM account you are able to call the company and ask to be unlocked. That's why I was wondering if I could do it myself.

There is no such thing as unlocking a CDMA phone, you can only flash the phone to another CDMA carrier which is both difficult and time consuming and almost always results in some features not working, in particular mms. It also usually requires the additional expense of a "donor" phone to transfer the settings from. And then after all of that there is a grey area concerning the legality of changing the esn on the phone. In other words: it's just not worth it.
