Simple Flash for Galaxy Nexus Yakjuxw to Yakju to get OTA 4.1.1

ockc

Lurker
I was running Yakjuxw 4.0.4(OTA comes from Samsung) on my GSM GNEX and couldn't wait for Samsung to push Jellybean anymore so I looked around and found this, it changes Yakjuxw(4.0.1, 4.0.2 and 4.0.4) to Yakju 4.0.1(OTA comes straight from Google).

Here are the steps I followed and cleaned it up for everyone that was in my position. After the downloads, it took like less than 10min to get it on Yakju. It is super easy. No Rooting, No Custom ROMs.

Download the USB driver and firmware files to Windows.
Firmware
USB Driver
Run USB driver app in Windows, Reboot Windows
Run firmware app in Windows
Put phone in Download mode (Power off, Press Volume Down button + Power On button down until it goes to Download Mode, plug USB cable in)
Once the device is found in the firmware app, click start!

Let it finish and you are done.

When it starts back up you should setup your phone back up with all the Apps that you want before installing the OTAs. It's going to go from 4.0.2>4.0.4>4.1.1. From start to finish it took me 30-40min to get my phone back the way I want it. Good luck and enjoy.:D

I don't suppose this work for the Verizon version.

No. It won't work for any of the CDMA Galaxy Nexus phones, only the GSM (i9250) version.

any source on the program? for more info? I want to know if it will run on yakjuzs and I'm already on 4.0.4

It should work on any Galaxy Nexus i9250 (GSM unlocked) phone. Though it should be noted that there is always some risk in flashing the software on your phone.

The USB Driver Link is not working, can i use the one in the download site form samsung?

is the
Verizon_Wireles_I515_Galaxy_Nexus_USB_Driver_v1.4.6.0.exe

thanks

I had the same problem as you ockc. I couldn't find a way to force the OTA on my brand new GN, I was so frustrated.

Finally at around 2am I stumbled upon this thread.

A few mouse clicks later and voila, problem solved.

Thanks for the post!

So is this supposed to go into Odin mode or Download mode? The Firmware exe file I downloaded through the link (Odin3Excution v1.86) didn't seem to do anything in Download mode.

If I go into Odin mode, (vol down + Powering up) it leaves Odin Mode as soon as I let go of any of the buttons.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Take this with a grain of salt as I'm no expert but, the method listed at the top of this thread is supposed to be easier to do but doing it either way will get you to the same place in the end, having a version that will allow the JB update be pushed to your phone automatically.

I upgraded my brother's phone following these steps! It works perfect!
The only problem that I had while upgrading was when it applied 4.0.1 and 4.0.2, there was a massive green tint on the phone, which was very scary! Once it came back up to 4.0.4, I didn't see it anymore. Have 4.1 now without any problems!
I'm hoping that was a firmware problem in displaying colors...

I flashed to yakju (had the samsung variant for Middle East earlier) based on the instructions in this link, so that I'd get updates directly from google:

http://androidforums.com/samsung-ga...laxy-nexus-yakjuxw-yakju-get-ota-4-1-1-a.html

I got 4.0.1. It updated to 4.0.2 through wi-fi. After that, it was not updating to 4.0.4 through wi-fi, but updated instantly as soon as I switched to my mobile network, and I have no idea why that happened. I am in UAE, and my carrier is Etisalat.

Anyhow, I'm now not getting the 4.1 update either through wi-fi or mobile. When I click on system update, it shows that the update is downloading, and nothing downloads eventually and I get a message intimating me that the download has failed and that I can retry the download.

I have tried the usual trick: clearing google services framework cache and then restarting the phone, hasn't worked.

Can someone help please? I'm not exactly a noob, but I'm not a geek either. So do bear in mind that I need detailed instructions..:)

Thanks in advance.

I'd suggest following these instructions that use Wug's Toolkit, the toolkit makes things very easy. While it is allegedly for non-yakju devices, the instructions still work. As long as you make sure you have the current version of Wug's Toolkit, it will update you directly to 4.1.1. Hopefully you will, possibly immediately or within a few days, then get the notice to update to 4.1.2.
