Root Since.181 fails to install ??? No ICS?

Was having issues installing the last update when it came out so just gave up, but now I'm thinking maybe something on board prevented it. I'm going to need to resolve this if I'm to get ICS later.
I'm rooted and backed up everything using titanium. I used root keeper to maintain root. I even went so far as to do a reset back to factory specs when the first try failed. Now I'm wondering if somehow an app like watchdog could be preventing an install. But doing a reset back to stock I would think would have erased any weirdness from some app.
Resets are a pita, was just venting and maybe hoping for a clue what my problem could be. I did have success using root keeper for the last(first)upgrade I soon after I got the Maxx. So I dunno. Any advice?
The Maxx is awesome as it currently is and I'm very pleased with its performance, so if I ultimately do not get this figured out its not that huge of a deal, just no trying out the ICS.

hey man, long time no see haha. I switched to the maxx a week ago and it was 173, i rooted and otarootkeeper'd on day one and used safestrap to go to an ICS ROM (not leak), i went back to stock for a day and the update took fine... i can only imagine you changed a system file, or used an app that did so, or uninstalled some apps instead of freezing? i'd use matt's utility to flash back to stock 181 (the newest utility [1.6] has this option with the fastboot files included) but i'd only do it after ICS drops and we're sure its rootable (after having those troubles with the commando haha)

Hey Spike, nice upgrade from commando to Maxx, ehh?
I never deleted anything, just froze a lot of stuff. Unfroze everything prior to trying to ota the update. I might wait then till ICS comes out and give it another shot. Maybe try it with Matt's utility, haven't done that yet.

this thing is blazing fast and i've had a couple days where the batter has lasted over 30 hours. huge improvment. And as far at using the utility, it should work fine for you. (the update is rumored to drop on the 12th and some inside sources have told me it will be 6.14.140)
