Single Greatest Performance By An Actor Or Actress

What I really like about Ed Norton is how he can be totally different in every movie. Great range.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but.....
Alec Baldwin in Malice
The courtroom scene:
"You ask me if I have a God complex? I am God"
Terrific scene in a terrible movie
 
No doubt whatsoever.
Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight.
The most intense amazing performance I have ever witnessed. I never knew he was capable of that. He is sadly missed.

I never thought his performance as the Joker was nearly as impressive as many others seemed to think it was. This isn't to say it wasn't a good performance. He played the role well enough, made you understand and believe the character.

I've heard that Mr. Ledger found playing this role very traumatic, along with speculation that the trauma of playing this role contributed to his subsequent suicide. I don't know how much credence to give any of this. Surely, he's not the first or the best actor to play a monstrous villain, and others who have done so seem to get along just fine afterward. Which leads us to
 
Haha great! How did you feel about The Departed having watched Infernal Affairs before it?

Naturally I am a Departed hater:p(though I did enjoy the acting).
