Siri on Android?

Didn't read the article, but logic dictates that if Apple is making Siri for Apple, I think they would also go to considerable effort to keep other phones from using it.

Someone may crack it, but I think Apple will just fix the cracks.
Having seen other programs and operating systems, it would make more sense to make a competitive solution rather than chase one that is not going to be offered unless they want to offer it.

Yeah I thought about that too considering that Siri is really connected to the Cloud more than anything which would make it harder to use on any other devices. It still is a pretty neat thing if they get it working.

He means any request you make to siri gets sent to apple servers for the response.

Personally, I wouldnt really want it on my device, but the jailbroken Iphone 4's are damn close to getting it working on their phones, so its possible.

Its getting annoying having so many siri ads cough threads in this place. As far as i can tell siri is a novelty. Learn all the voice commands that have been on the droid for years and you have siri without the novelty part. If you need your phone to talk to you try sny of the many assistant apps on the market.

Really i dont care having a discussion on apple products just not new siri adds every day in every other forum here.

I have been using IRIS for about a week now--- it works well on my phone--some of the answers are funny-- it's just in a beta form right now. Download and install it and have some fun with your buddy who has an I-Phone:pIris for Android: Kind of Like Siri, But for Android

You already have a bunch of knock-offs which work just as well, not to mention built-in voice commands. I seriously don't see the appeal in voice commands though, but whatever.

lol wow you guys hate iPhone and Apple wayyy too much. Can you give some credit to the software and the products they make? Yeah, it makes life a little easier, so what? The more competition people have, the better their products get. Yes, I know we have voice commands, can we just see the coolness in this and quit complaining?

iPhone users and iPod Touch people too can get Android onto their devices but why can't we ever get any of their stuff? iOS devices do have some features that our Android devices do not have yet.

And yes, by Cloud I mean sending information to a remote server that is controlled by Apple in part or whole. Regardless, they are in control of its commands from their so cracking it for our phones is going to be a bit of a challenge if it can be done and people are willing to get it.

I wouldn't use the novelty of Siri. But I can see the novelty of cracking it and putting it on Android, Blackberry, and whatever else just to ruffle Apple's feathers.

I much rather people hack that than like...credit card servers.

I just don't see the appeal to voice commands on a phone. Most places I am I don't want people knowing what I'm doing on my phone and when I'm in the car it's normally too loud (open windows or music) for it to work. It's a personal preference.

That said, I am a fan of many Apple products (just not a fan of the practices of the company).

On a side note: I wonder how Apple would perceive having Siri on additional devices? Part of me sees it as a form of search and could potentially be monetized by Apple with ads (or sharing search results with advertisers). Additional users of Siri could help Apple in the long run. Not that it's a competition but I'm very Google loyal and I'd rather use their services when available. <3 GOOG!

Iphone users can get Android onto their devices because Android is an open source os. Apple does not release the source code to ios. Hence why Android can be run on other devices.

Read very little hurt in this thread but as stated the forum is saturated with omg siri!!!! threads already and as mentioned apple is playing catch up on voice commands as it is and the community already has a number of assistants already in the market. Personally I dont mind discussing it but when I open up different areas of the forum and almost daily another omg siri just fondled me thread pops up its annoying. As for the specific apple cloudiness, as far as I can tell siri gets just as confused as any other voice assistant.

Not being a iPhone owner/user I cannot attest to Siri's strengths and/or weaknesses. However, Siri is prone to taking time off, as noted in several tech news articles this past week.

We have been asked to lock this thread it it seems like it has run its course.

As always, my PM inbox is always open, so feel free to contact me (or any other mod) if you feel strongly about this.

Thank you, enjoy the forums. :)
