Sirius/XM App on the way soon!!

Opie and Anthony are a bunch of no talent ***s! If they were so funny, how come they went back to regular radio and failed miserably? How many subscribers did they bring to XM? Like 3? Back to the topic, Pandora is way better if you just want music and its free. After the trial of the sirius app, you have to pay extra to listen to Sirius online or on your phone. Without Howard Stern available on the app, it's not worth it to me.
Ba Ba Boey to you all!

Agreed.

Let the poison out.

Are you serious? Pandora is amazing! I had to pay for it because I blew the forty hour mark in 5 days and now I get the high quality and unlimited skips and no ads. I do not know what possibly makes you hate so much but I am pretty sure you are in a very small group who does not like it.

It would be if it worked nearly as well as the computer version. It is just way too buggy to pay for. I hope the group of people who does not like unstable and poorly written apps is larger than you suggest, otherwise android will continue to be a hotbed of apps that should not have made it out of the hobbyist progammer's basement.

I don't think it takes a major company to write a good app (even EA has written some real stinkers for the app market.) I just feel that mediocrity should not be rewarded.

Personally, I think Pandora has made XM radio obsolete rather quickly. It's free and even more user-centric than XM.

While most people would agree with you, it depends on who you talk to. I listen to Sirius constantly and I rarely use Pandora/Slacker. As a matter of fact, I haven't used Pandora (on my phone or on my office PC) in at least three months. There are just certain stations on Sirius that I absolutely love in terms of the variety of songs that they play. Plus, I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that new music plays on Sirius well before it gets loaded into the Pandora databases. There's nothing better than listening to Sirius XMU (unbelievable station) and hearing music that is so fresh and cutting edge that it's only on the web in MP3 form. And I love the talk stations on Sirius (Howard Stern, news, comedy/stand-up, sports, etc).

Furthermore, I prefer Cherry Rplayer over Pandora and Slacker any day. I use Cherry Rplayer and DroidLive almost as much if not more than Sirius (except Cherry is better because it is free and I only use the Popular Stations tab). DroidLive has an amazing GUI though.

EDIT: If the Sirius app doesn't contain Howard (as a poster above stated), then I want no parts of it. And, by the way, once flash is released shouldn't we be able to go to Sirius.com and access our online accounts?

bwa ha ha ha.. was that not the creepiest show ever. man, that old dude was sketchy.

I think he should be a show regular. :D

That's what I am waiting for, at some point they have to enable flash.

I may seriously have to resubscribe to the online service just for this. I cancelled my sirius/xm last fall, since I rarely used it in my car anymore. But with this app coming out for the Droid...I'm thinking I should resubscribe!

My wife said she heard a commercial on Sirius yesterday that it's coming soon. Anyone else hear this, any idea of a date?

I heard the commercial for it on Sirius as well yesterday, still no info on the launch date of it that I have heard but I'll be installing the instant it becomes available.

I have found (in another thread) a short term fix to get some of the Howard 100 onto the phone now. You can stream Bubba the Love Sponge on http://theboneonline.com/mobile/index.html Click on listen live (mp3), and open the stream (I am using Cherry Rplayer).

At least it is something to listen to on the phone...

I check google everyday to see if something pops up.... Always the same crap. I've emailed Sirius and all they did was send me the page that says enter email and we will notify you when it's ready. Thanks but do you think I've already hit that up. We'll see in the next couple of days but I'm starting to get a big worried.

I used to have XM and dropped it cause they took my off my favorite show. Mike McConnell. On 700WLW out of my hometown. Then I heard it was availiable on iheart radio app. Problem is it drops all the time when you loose the data link. I almost never bother to even try it anymore. If the XM app works the same it wont convert very many of the several million truck drivers out there currently using xm.

I just looked again at the Sirus/XM news release and it DOES say May 2010:

NEW YORK, April 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SIRIUS XM Radio (Nasdaq: SIRI) today announced that a free application for Android-powered smartphones will be available in May, giving consumers access to over 120 channels of sports, talk, entertainment, news, comedy and commercial-free music on the DROID by Motorola and the Google Nexus One.

The free SIRIUS XM App for the DROID and Nexus One will give mobile consumers the freedom to listen to SIRIUS XM Premium Online content on the go on their smartphones over cellular and WiFi networks.

The PR dept. probably talked to the developers who said they might be able to have it by June and went wild with the press releases. During ESRI's user conference this Feb, they were talking about the new version being released for Q3, but the president of the company was saying "June or July..." The head of his engineering staff grudgingly agreed to July, but the president kept saying "June" after that. :(

Note to anyone who gets it: for some reason it's just called "Online" in the apps list. So after you install it, don't get all confused when you can't find it under "sirius".

That said, YES. Now I'm kind of annoyed I bought RadioTime...

I used it for about an hour today. I love it. I had Sirius but canceled the subscription two years ago when I found a job closer to home and couldn't get reception in my office. There was no need to keep it in the car for a ten minute drive. I'm happy I can listen to it now on my phone where ever I am. I've been using Slacker Radio heavily and like it, but there's something about hearing DJs. I feel like there's someone on the other end other than a computer spitting out a playlist (even though a lot of the DJ banter on Sirius is prerecorded, so that's not really the case).

Some things I've noticed. The sound quality seems pretty good, but I'm at work and haven't listened in my car yet, so I'm using the internal speaker. The app itself seems polished. I get drop outs every once in a while when I for some reason lose the data connection, but they are usually only a few seconds in length. I liken it to when I occasionally lost the satellite signal while driving.

The main thing is the battery drain. I listened for about an hour or so straight on my Incredible and the battery dropped 20%. My guess is Sirius is constantly streaming, as opposed to Slacker Radio which caches the current song. If you plan on doing heavy listening, make sure you have a charger nearby.

The reason I bought an Android: I was listening to Sirius in my car while using Google maps. Before, this required two devices and a whole slew of cords and cables. Then I got a call and the radio cut out while I talked. All the while, I had Meebo running so I could send some IM's while at stoplights or stuck in traffic.

You might need a couple of devices yet. If you get a call, no more radio, but your map won't update then either.

I just tell the folks who call that I'll talk to them later. Car time is me time anyway. People can't hear my terrible singing and the only time I have to take care of other people is by not running them over when they are in my road. :D
