Help Skype Video Calling?

Has anyone tried using Skype Video Calling yet? I have an issue where it wont load my cameras. Tried using front and back, but just a black screen. I can see my wife who I called (using a Droid Charge Android 2.2) with no problems.

I used this on my bionic before it was a supported device and it worked great. Maybe it will work for you guys too.

>>> This was a workaround for Skype before it was awailable on Market. There is Skype that supports the Bionic on Market now. Thank You all. <<<

I got Skype to work with video on my Droid Bionic by doing the following:

1 Uninstall all Skype versions on your phone.

2 Install the modified version of Skype found here xda-developers - View Single Post - Skype 2.1.0.46 (v11) / fixes, extra features & more!

3 Sign in to Skype and on the main page hit the menu key (on your phone) then go to Advanced Settings.

4 Check-mark the option Use valid preview surface

5 Once back and on the Skype main screen hit the menu key (on your phone) and go in to Settings (Regular Settings this time) and check-mark Enable video calling

Enjoy your video calls on your phone.

I have tested this on mine and it works Phone to Phone or Phone to PC. Both cameras are working.

Credits go to theos0o from XDA developers and gazan1204 from droid forums

Stupid question, but when you go the xda website, it has a .rar file and .apk
Which do you need? Both? I tried clicking on both with my phone, and downloads failed. Is there a program you need to install them?

Download the apk one, you'll need to make sure Android is set to allow Unknown sources (Click Menu>Settings>Applications>Click box to put check next to unknown services). Find the apk file, click to open and should install like you're installing from Market.

For now I'll use Tango.

Try a different browser like Dolphin HD, skyfire, ext. or download it from a computer and transfer it over.

I got this to work using the lastest version (12) from XDA. Had to uninstall official, then install version 11, then uninstall, install version 12. Did not work. Start the process over again of uninstall and reinstall. Worked great since yesterday. LTE network makes for great video and voice calls. Very happy.

I could not make version 12 work, however, version 11 works well for me.

Once you install this software Skype will want to get update from the Market, how do you stop it from continually reminding and wanting to update you?

fatpomp's and bhodges98's method worked for me! I uninstalled the current version, then installed version 11 from XDA from the link in post #4. (Must allow "unknown sources" install in settings). Then I uninstalled version 11 and re-installed version 12 from Market.

Skype video calling now working great! (Good on wi-fi and super on LTE)

NOTE
:

  • Use the main Skype app in Market, not "Skype for Verizon."
  • Do not merely "update" to version 12 -- uninstall 11 and fresh install 12).

Thanks for your post.

I just want to make sure I got it correct.
I currently have version 11 that I downloaded from the XDA developers link. Are you saying that I need to uninstall it and than go back to market and install non-Verizon Skype? But isn't it the same skype that we are all had problems with getting video to work?
I was under impression that we need to download V12 skype from the XDA link?

Thanks.
