Anyone else using this? Just curious why the battery life drained from 100 to 40% in about 3 hours with the app on "online" mode

Yes, had same problem, so I have to be careful not to launch it accidentally. Battery life dropped from average of 1.5days to 4 hours.

No video calls is a bummer as well. The only good thing about it is voice quality excels any other VoIP solution I've tried. At this point, the app is as good as un-installed.

The issue with these types of applications is is that they are continuously using power by keeping the radio active to provide data to the network. I suggest that if you are not actively using your application that you make sure you kill it and its services to preserve battery life.

It's been a while, and new Skype version supports Video calls now..Have not thoroughly tested battery life, but from limited testing, seems just as bad. It's too bad Captivate doesn't have the front facing camera. There's only some much one could do with the rear camera for video calls.

Sorry, this is a tangent, but it's just one of those things I couldn't understand about ATT's decision to cripple the Captivate: Why did they de-feature the Galaxy by removing the Front-facing camera and the FM radio? I really needed these two exact features while out of the country past few weeks. It's a shame because the original Galaxy S is really a wonderful product/tool (except for the GPS issues).

Do your video calls in front of a mirror, solves the one camera option.
