Help Sleep Mode Feature...

Again, the only thing I have to compare is my blackberry so sorry if this sounds rude.

My blackberry had a feature where I can put the phone to deep sleep (or hibernation if you would) from Midgnight to 8 AM, the phone would not ring nor I would get sounds for all the different notifications, whether it was BBM, text or whatsapp.

I could not find anything similar on my Nexus 5 so I downloaded "Silent Sleep" which I found very user friendly and to the point... set start time, set end time, silent mode, days of week and Enable. For some reason though, I still get notification rings/sounds if someone sends me an email or text.

So, is there a free app I can download that could do what my BB used to do?

I don't like to download apps willy nilly because it seems they all ask you to accept uploading contact information and or personal details to them and I try to not allow the world to my personal info... it is too out there enough to begin with and the last thing I need is more spam email lol
 
Why does everybody wants to know where I am? perhaps at my old age I am getting paranoiac or maybe not as infatuated as the rest to know where the other person is LOL.

One of the reasons why I don't like to install apps nilly willy is because they all want to know this or they all want to take a look at my contacts before installing. I have nothing to steal but still I dislike getting bombarded with spam email, more so when I have not really requested it.

I guess I will have to give this LLama a try, it does seem to do what I want... still not particularly comfortable with location but I guess I understand why they do it.

By the way, what is this "Tasker" I keep hearing/reading about? is this part of android apps or basically another app I can add?

Again, sorry if I seem rude or an ingrate, BB had their own quirks but they do like to respect privacy more than most I am learning.
 
Tasker is an automation app, similar to Llama but more powerful. These 2 apps both need access to your location in order to do some of the things they can do, e.g. if you want to use them to turn your WiFi on when you get home and off when you leave then the phone needs to know where you are.

As for why apps whose function does not require this information still request that permission, in most cases it will be because advertisers want to know (e.g. to serve location-dependent ads, or just because they are nosey buggers with no respect for your privacy who want to collect data they can sell to other advertisers - you decide ;)). Personally I always check permissions before installing apps and don't install those which want unnecessary permissions, and if I use an app more than occasionally and it has a paid, ad-free version I buy that. I also use "permission management" tools to disable some permissions in some apps (e.g. location access). That's been a "hidden" option since 4.3, and there are a number of apps which will let you do this. However, since I think 4.4.2 you need to root the device (gain administrator access) to do it.

BTW: do you really believe that apps on the Blackberry didn't snoop your location or other data? More likely they just didn't tell you they were doing it.
 
Android 5.0 actually included some settings for creating a recurring "Do Not Disturb" mode, which you can use to silence/ignore ALL notifications during a specified time period. It may not be quite as flexible as some of the other options (no different schedule for weekends vs weekdays), but it doesn't require installing any additional apps.

There's a bit of information on that here, specifically in Steps 5-6. Let us know if you need assistance getting that to work for you. :)

Thanks, I am going to check it out, if for nothing else than learn a bit more about android.

I have been using computers since the early 80's so no, I am not that Naive to believe that none of them do this. Hell, MSN has more scripts than any other page I know but, with BB I never installed an app because everything I needed came with the phone, which at least, they will only sell that list to the usual suspects and not unusual suspects if you will LOL
