Sleep deals with the length of inactivity before the screen "sleeps" - goes blank. Sleep mode should be set for your comfort, I set mine to two minutes - the screen goes blank after two minutes here. I feel that 15 or 30 seconds would be annoying because you might still be using the phone when it enters sleep mode and you'd be waking the phone up too often.

Try 1 minute or two minutes and see if that suits you, anything longer than that will cause unacceptable battery drain because the screen is the biggest battery hog on these devices.

so if you set the phone for example at 15 seconds in sleep mode and you are watching a video it will automatically timeout in 15 seconds?

I'm not sure about videos, I don't watch videos on my devices. It may be that the video player keeps the screen awake during the video, so the player might override the sleep setting. You could always try it and see what happens.

My main concern for you would be that you're reading an article and the screen goes blank in 15 seconds while you're reading and that can be quite annoying.

no it should stay on, i have watched numerous videos at 5-7 minutes long and my screen times out when unplugged in 30 seconds. But it stays on.
