SleepBot- settings?

What do all the different settings mean? It says it's so easy to set up and understand and so on... but I don't quite get the wording of a few of them:

"Punch in time offset"
"Auto Punch-in when Idle"
"Idle Threshold"
"Optimal Hour"- (is this how much you actually get m-f since I work and usually can only get 7hrs even though I'm sure I personally need more?)

And it doesn't say but... are you supposed to put your phone beside you on your bed and it's supposed to "read" when you are tossing and turning and so on???

Punch in time offset - You can punch in at 12:00, but if it takes you 30 minutes to go to sleep, you set it as a 30 minute offset and that is when Sleep Bot starts counting your sleep.

I have an older version from Amazon, so I don't have the next two features. Can't help you.

Optimal hour - You tell Sleep Bot how many hours you would ideally like to sleep, so it can then count your actual hours of sleep versus how many you want. That's how you get the credit/debt.

Sleep Bot doesn't track how you sleep, just how long you do. So there is no need for you to have it on your bed as you sleep.

If you are really into tracking your sleep, then also download Sleepmaster from the Market. I have both on my phone. Sleep Bot's widget and settings are easier to deal with. However, Sleepmaster allows you to keep track of many more things that contribute to your sleep patterns. For example, sleep aids, holes (periods of time when you wake up during the night), dreams, quality of sleep, etc.

How do you use both? Well, use Sleep Bot to actually track your sleep, you can add notes if you want. Then, once a day, week, month, whatever, go into Sleepmaster and import your data from Sleep Bot. You would then add in all of the details from your notes into Sleepmaster or you can just leave it as is.

Or, between the two, you may decide that you only want, like or need one. I started with Sleep Bot, but found Sleepmaster. I love them both, but they each have their strengths and they are small enough for me to keep both.

Another thing about Sleep Bot, if you end up with just Sleep Bot, you will have to export your data every month and a half to two months. It only keeps a certain amount of data, unless there is something improved in the Market version. Sleepmaster seems to be endless.

There is a free and paid version of Sleepmaster.

Hi calikat!

Thanks Kendall for helping answer some of these questions!
[Also-- I think the Amazon version we have up right now is pretty outdated-- the market version has a lot of great new features (and new UI) and if you'd like me to send you the APK just let me know!]

I'm Jane, one of the developers of SleepBot, and wanted to help answer your questions--

1. Auto Punch-in while Idle: This is a test function that is supposed to start tracking after your phone has been idle for a certain amount of time. We haven't actually perfected this method, but that's why it's there-- for feedback from users like you!

2. Idle Threshold: Has to do with the above auto punchin function-- it's how long you want it to start tracking after your phone has been idle. Say you've slept for five hours, and your threshhold is five hours, it will start tracking from five hours BEFORE, and continue until you punch out.

@Kendall-- I'm having some trouble finding SleepMaster on the Android Market-- could you help redirect me to their page?

SleepMaster sounds like it's pretty cool! We have a lot of those same features on SleepBot (check out the Settings>Advanced Settings) but we definitely have room to improve.

I'd love to hear suggestions or feedback from both of you-- you can always contact me at jane@mysleepbot.com, or stop by twitter.com/mysleepbot!

[[**Also a sidenote on movement tracking on phones:
While motion sensors can detect movements during the night, your movement does NOT indicate your sleep quality-- in order to do so, you would need a thirdparty device that can track your heart rate and give you a reading such as an EEG.
Although tossing and turning can definitely be a sign of fatigue or difficulty sleeping, movements such as turning over or stretching are normal during sleep, which is why it's really difficult to distinguish between those without an actual device.
We're definitely considering where this will lead, and consider doing this in the future when we find a more accurate way to track sleep quality, but as of now,
SleepBot is definitely intended for you to use to track your sleep length and sleep interruptions because those are the key indicators of sleep quality.]]

Please please let me know if you have any other questions, comments, or issues!
Thanks for using SleepBot and hope it helps your sleep!

Best,

Jane

Well, there is a reason as to why you couldn't find it. It's actually called Sleepmeter. Clearly, I'm not getting enough sleep.

I thought about downloading the Market version, but I guess I like what I have so much that I don't want to take the chance on updates that I don't. :D That happened to me on another application, one little change and while it isn't major, it wasn't an update that I needed and I can't undo it.

But, I do read the Market page quite often to try to see what it is that I'm missing. :) Continued success with SleepBot, I really like it and I use it every night.
