Slimport adapters

I bought this one from monoprice and the screen shows up in portrait but is very buggy and often just goes black. On landscape, it fails to get the data and I get the appropriate blue display. I plugged in usb power and it could sometimes display a static image on landscape but it doesn't improve the display in portrait.

Besides a poor adapter, my first thought is the HDMI cable being a problem. It's thin wire and 15ft long. I have a 10 or 12ft cable with thicker gauge that I'll try as soon as I can find it.

Anybody have experience with slimport adapters and the N5 to share?
 
No experience with the adapter, but an HDMI cable normally either works or it doesn't. I use $3 6 foot cables and never have a problem.
 
The cables work with my laptop no problem, I figured there might be some signal degradation since it comes through intermittently
