Help Slow internet conection

Hi All

Newbie question here:

My internet conection is painfully slow...........when I have the mobile network switched on a get a G with two arrows showing........GPRS?

Is this correct, should I not see a 3G with two arrows?

This will depend on what your network coverage is in the area you are trying to connect, for instance i am with orange & at the back of my place i get H but at the front i only get G or 3G.
No i only live in a flat, not a mansion of my dreams lol
