Help Slow to go back to home screen

Recently I've been finding an annoying problem with my HTC Hero: when I'm using any app and I press home button, to go back to the main screen, it takes a loooooong time to realod the launcher.

For example: I'm using Gmail and want to go back to the home screen, to click on Google Maps app icon. Well, that action of going back to home takes anything form 10 to 40 secs. While it reloads it shows first the white screen with HTC logo and after that the "loading" screen.

That issue happens randomly, but now every day more often.

I'm sure this issue has already been discussed here, but I wasn't good enough to find the proper terms. I would be happy if someone tells me what to do or in which other thread I can read something about it.

OK, I see you're rooted, so that makes things a little easier.

Try booting your phone into recovery, and try to clear / wipe your cache partition and the dalvik cache (found under advanced). Reboot your phone. That should clear things up a little.

If that doesn't work, you may want to try wiping the phone clean and reinstalling your rom. It is a pain to start over, I know, but sometimes it really helps.

The Hero doesn't have a lot of internal memory, so the caches and such get filled up rather quick. This boggs stuff down and causes launcher redraws, which you described, etc. I made it a habit to clear out the caches regularly about once a week or so when I had my Hero, really helps.

Dear Granite, thanks for the answer.

I've tried to clear cache and dalvik, but my crappy HTC Hero simply freezes when I boot into recovery.

I guess my only option now is to install a new ROM. It's a shame.

What is the best ROM for HTC Hero? I've read many articles here, I've tested a couple, but there is always a downside.
