Help Smart Dial on N1

In the Phone app on the Hero there is Smart Dial which allows you to just type a persons name & it brings up the relevant contacts with those keystrokes

I dont see this on the N1 unless Im mistaken

Ive found the regular phone app really long winded to look up contacts

any help pls

Two possible options:
1 - use voice dial and tell the phone who to call : "Call John Doe - Mobile" works well. OR
2 - From the home screen, just hit the search button and start typing a name. You'll get the contact easily enough.

I think I understand what you are looking for, try this:

With the contacts window up, press and hold the menu soft key (the one next to back) this will bring up the keyboard and you can then start typing the name and it will narrow down to the one you are looking for as you type.
