Smart stay issue

Hoping someone can help I have the Sm G900i model on 4.4.2 and I have smart stay activated and it was working great till about 2 weeks ago now the screen goes off while I am looking at it unless I touch something on the screen. Does anyone know how to fix this? The only thing that was different was I downloaded battery doctor after using this a couple of days I noticed my smart stay wasn't working so uninstalled battery doctor but it still isn't working. Thank you for your help in advance.

Did disabling and re enabling smart stay make any difference .?

No I tried that I might turn it off then restart the phone then re-enable and see if that works.

Tried turning off smart stay and then restarting the phone still not working the eye flashes but then the screen dims and if I don't touch it the screen goes off.

I always found Smart Stay pretty hit and miss, like the fingerprint scanner, a gimmick more that a function so I have given up on both.
