Smart Tools "This app does not support China" WTF!

Anyone heard of this app before, it's called "Smart Tools"? It's supposed to be some kind of Swiss army knife type thing, which does length and angle like a sort of theodolite, distance, compass, sound & vibration and a flashlight(turns the screen white).

But when I try and do the length & angle and sound & vibration part of the app, it gives a message "This app does not support China", like it's got some kind of restrictions on what works depending on what country you're in? Has anyone heard of such a thing in an app or come across this before.

If it was say a Netflix or Hulu app, I can understand country restrictions. But this looks like some free novelty which does measuring, sounds and flashlight type things....it's like WTF!! and stupid!

The app was free from China Mobile's Monternet app store. 10086.cn

Most parts of this (great) tool are available as single apps.
They might available for you in Play Store ... or not ?

Harry, I just had a look on Google Play, it's showing as a paid app on there for 15RMB CNY. "Smart Tools is a complete package of 5 app sets", so it looks like the same app. But it's giving a message about, not being compatible with my China Mobile Samsung GT9000. However my phone was bought in the UK, and is the international version with CM7. It was free on China Mobile's app store, but gives this message about not supported in China on some features of the app.

A mystery? Worth contacting the devs, see what they got to say about it?

Mike, these 5 parts of the paid app, some are for free as single apps, some have to be paid.

Your installed Smart Tools app was free.
So might the paid parts of the tool not be available in this free Smart Tools.

Pure speculation yet :)

EDIT:
I've looked in Play Store, every paid single tool app has a free brother.
So there are other reasons.

Harry

I'm guessing it uses some kind of in app purchase to enable and unlock the extra paid tools. It sees that I'm in Mainland China, where presumably the in app purchase and unlocking is not supported
