SmartGlass... The coolest, most useless Microsoft App

In the world.

Seriously. I can't really figure out what I can do with it... It seems like I can open apps and use it as a (really bad) remote control, but swiping/controls are the opposite of ever touch screen app... Ever. And very few games support it at all. Anybody else have any experience with it? Using it on my Nexus 10.

can you use it to type? rather than using a controller to slowly type out things

At least its a free app haha and as long as you didn't get xbox live just to use smartglass it's not a total loss ;) I know I got it, but I don't have an xbox in the first place lol

Smartglass is simply a remote control from your Android device to your xbox for anything besides games aka navigating menus. That's it. I like it to send messages to my friends and to check achievements that I may/may not want to get. Not to mention the fact that it is free.

Who knows, it may be useless now, but Microsoft may have better uses for it in the future. Who knows where they are able to take it.

I think its pretty cool overall, I just wish the swiping during app control, like Netflix, weren't complete reverses of traditional touch interfaces. Its really cool, I just don't have a practical use for it yet.

I remember reading somewhere that apps similar to smartglass would be able to link with the next gen consoles very well.

I think the Watch Dogs game is going to have a feature where you can use your phone to hack parts of the city :D

well if it is free, there's not much to complain about.

Like I said, only complaint is reversal of traditional touch-screen scrolling controls.

There's no practical use for it, except for showing off my Nexus 10, when the d*** device is working and not being sent to Samsung.

I've used the app to type on the xbox using my phone. It's kind of a pain because the app has to sync every time the phone's screen turns off. Pretty much anything is better than typing with the xbox controller though.

Beats eating AA batteries when all I am doing is watching Netflix. Plus is anyone else just sick of the flashing 'low battery' 'feature' on the 360 controller that comes on even if half my battery remains? I tried drilling the LEDs out but was unsuccessful as they are surface mount and I trashed a controller trying to disassemble a spare. Either way that problem is lessened by using Smartglass on apps that involve streaming video or audio. I tried Kinect but since Netflix has that 20 second countdown thing at the end of each show (which I cannot stand and hope is removed in an update so I don't scramble for my 360 controller before it tries playing the next episode) my xbox cannot hear voice commands as the audio is loud during the ending credits so I use Smartglass to back out before it autoplays
