Smartphone, 7' tablet or iPod??

Mind

Lurker
Hi!

I'm about to buy my first mobile computing device. So now I wonder, is it best to buy a smartphone, 7-inch tablet or an iPod combined with a pocket- router?

A smartphone is small and can be easily transported and used everywhere. They are the most popular of the three(?), and thus there are lots of more reviews and such about them.

A 7-inch tablet would need a bag, a big pocket or a specialmade litte bag- thing when its transported, but offers better using experience and processing power for the same price.

An iPod is A LOT cheaper and has about the same functions, but needs a wifi to connect to the internet.

I already have a phone which I can use to make calls if I pick the tablet or the iPod.

Soo... what do you think?

I currently use iPod + MiFi2200 + basic flip phone + Bluetooth GPS receiver. It sucks to be honest. I like iPod but it's simply too small. Carrying the mifi with me is kind of a hassle because I hate carrying 2 devices. I usually leave my phone behind.

I've tried a tablet. Let me tell you, if it doesn't fit in your pocket, you probably will end up leaving it behind all the time. I carry my iPod with me in my pocket even if I'm just going to the kitchen for a minute. My iPod is always with me. To me, tablets are just a couch potato device.

I'm getting a smartphone soon, and I can't wait! It's all my devices in 1!!! I'll most likely get the Razr Maxx unless a better phone comes out soon.

Go with a smartphone if you plan on it leaving the house.

get a smartphone.

Don't give Apple any of your money. When they stop suing left and right to try to beat the competition, then maybe give em money. but not till then

Smartphone, because:

It will always be with you;
It does everything that a tablet does, despite the screen size;
It's better to carry only one gadget with you

My vote goes with Smartphone..... bcoz any1 carry it with all the time with so much of ease and i can make calls with it at anytime. if i choose ipod or tab and i have to keep 2 device with me... so better just keep 1 device at all the time. :)

If you plan on using ONLY Wifi and not getting a data plan, tablet. If you want to be able to use the net without Wifi available, then smartphone. A tablet>iPod.

Tyvm for all the responses.

Yes, a smartphone would be the most obvious option. The reason that I'm doubting is that tablets are bigger, but not so big that you can't have them in your front pocket (bigger screen = better, you can't sit down with a tablet in your front pocket, however), and iPods seems more priceworthy (like 1/3 of the price, I doubt a smartphone is 3 times better).

No, I will NOT make calls from it.

Yes, I've also got the impression that apple sucks a bit.

But you'd say smartphone because of its greater portability?

There is also the Samsung Galaxy Player. A 4 and 5 inch model. It functions similar to iPod in the fact that it doesn't have a phone or 3G. The 5 inch device should fit in your pocket more comfortably than a tablet but you get a larger screen than most smartphones. It runs Android. If you want Internet away from wifi locations, you'll need to get a mifi device. At $240 at Best Buy, it's cheaper than the 32gb iPod, and has a Micro SD slot, granting more storage than iPod for an identical price.

Mifi devices can connect up to 5 devices to the Internet. It runs on its own battery, which lasts about 4 hours.
