i just purchased a new at&t plan with 200mb of data 4 days ago and I have already gone over my usage. How is that possible? I have the phone set up for wireless in my home. I have already been charged an overage fee and I haven't even gotten my first bill

How is the sync set up on your phone? Some apps update in the background... you could need to turn this off, in order to reduce the amount of data being used.

What phone do you have?

Welcome to Android Forums!

Have you downloaded any media? apps aren't that big, but movies and a lot of music will eat at data.

First, make sure you are actually connecting to your wireless network by going to menu>settings>wireless & networks>mobile networks and un-check the box that says data enabled. This will shut of data over AT&T's network. Make sure your WiFi is enabled by going to menu>settings>Wireless & networks>Wifi settings and make sure your home network is listed and it says connected. Now try browsing the web and downloading an app. If either of them fail then you aren't getting data through Wifi and it could account for the heavy data use.

Welcome to the forums.

D-U-R-X is correct, it's probably set to sync at very frequent intervals. If you want to check go into Settings, then Accounts and Sync, that will give you a list of everything that's syncing and how often it's set to.

I presume the handset is the Samsung Captivate, you might be able to get some tips here: Samsung Captivate - Android Forums
