...Apple vs. Android argument turned violent, police report

APRIL 17---A drunken argument over whether Android or Apple smartphones were superior turned violent early today when two Oklahoma roommates began assaulting each other during the bloody telecommunications debate...

Investigators did not disclose which of the men was the Apple fanboy or the Android devotee.

I want my Blackberry back.

Since I lost my faith in humanity as a whole a long time ago, I'm not really surprised.

I find that rather sad @Revenant Ghost. I still hold my faith in humanity. Admittedly it is under constant attack and I do dispair sometimes. However I temper my gloom with the though that among the seven billion of us there are more decent humans than dick heads amongst us.

On a more serious note. How can the argument about two lumps of electronics to which is the best (subjective at any level) that basically do the same thing result in violence? I know alcohol was involved, but for goodness sake, get a life.

An alien browsing the web looking at XDA might say not, however if they stumbled upon Phandriod I belive he would find we Phandrioders mostly civilised.;)

No, an alien browsing AndroidForums and seeing the apple Android discussions would think we were not civilized. Arguing over obsolete technology like cell phones - Geesh!

More from Verge:

A fight between two Tulsa roommates over which phone is superior — iPhone or Android — ended with a double stabbing, according to reports from the local news station, KTUL.

Reports suggest the men were drinking when conversation turned to smartphones. From the KTUL story, "Police say the two men broke beer bottles and stabbed each other with them. One of the men smashed a bottle over the back of the other man's head." Police have yet to charge either of the men, who are currently being treated at a nearby hospital.

Surely this will be the final argument had about the matter.

The next level of fanboys...yikes...I'm going to Windows Mobile. (Where nobody knows your name...like an anti-Cheers.)

And on a semi-related topic...

Colorado man cited for 'killing' uncooperative computer with handgun

Police in Colorado have cited a 37-year-old man for carrying his computer into an alley then shooting it eight times with a handgun after what authorities said had been a long battle with the uncooperative machine.

If he had taken it to an area where target practice is allowed, no one would have cared. I've seen one place where they used to shoot up old TVs. Gunfire in city limits is not allowed.

Every product that can generate a fanboy, does. Big fights about refracting/reflecting, goto/non-goto telescopes, Canon/Nikon cameras and all lenses. Some have come to blows, but no stabbings. You would think an activity like quilting would be calm and peaceful. The ladies are far worse than some Android/iOS fans. If the posters weren't using a website and were in close proximity, there would be more violence.

I think I read somewhere that extreme fanboyism is the expression of doubt that you made the right purchase and you need to convince yourself and others that you did.

Now it gets ugly....

Teenager murdered after tracking down lost smartphone

Both Apple and Google offer apps that can help you pinpoint a misplaced or stolen smartphone: Find My iPhone in the case of iOS, and Device Manager for Android. These tools have reunited many of us with our (expensive) smartphones, but they can also lead to some precarious situations.
I think the lesson there is if your phone disappears, have its data erased if you can, but then just let it go.

It doesn't always end up ugly....here's a very nice story about seeking out a stolen phone with no unpleasantness at all and a very happy ending. :):thumbsupdroid:

Brother Orange and Matt – the incredible story of iFriends

We all ended up in China for one random reason or another, we’ve all got crazy “foreigner celebrity” stories — but Matt Stopera’s wins. Hands down.

If you’ve even remotely brushed up against the Chinese Internet over the last month and a half, you’ve no doubt seen mention of Brother Orange and Matt. After posting on Buzzfeed about weird photos of a guy beside an orange tree showing up on his phone, Matt’s story went viral on Weibo. Ever eager to rev up the 人肉搜索, it wasn’t long before the subject of the photos, dubbed Brother Orange, was tracked down.

It turns out Brother Orange, from Meizhou in northeastern Guangdong, had been given an iPhone by his cousin as a gift. The phone, purchased in Shenzhen, had come from a market in Hong Kong, but before all that — it was Matt’s phone being stolen from a bar in Manhattan. The reason the photos were showing up on Matt’s new phone was because the iCloud service had never been deactivated, and so the old phone was still syncing.

After exchanging messages online, last month Matt decided to come to China to meet Brother Orange. He had no idea the insanity that awaited him."
